World War II Research Paper and Class Presentation

World War II Research Paper and Class Presentation

World War II Research Paper and Class Presentation

Goal: The goal of this project is for each group to research, and then teach the class, a major battle or campaign of World War 2. Through the research and presentation, each group will become “experts” on that major battle or campaign and be able to effectively teach the rest of the class, through a Powerpoint and corresponding assignment, the following components concerning the battle: who was involved, where was it fought, what the outcome was, and in what way that battle impacted World War 2.

Information: Each group should research and be able to teach the following information: what countries and/or units were involved in the battle, what type of fighting it was (infantry warfare, tank warfare, air warfare, etc), where the battle was fought (any maps available), any famous people involved or incidents that occurred, pictures from the battle, who won the battle and how this battle impacted the war (due to the loss or win, did it turn the tide of the war, was it a new type of warfare, etc). KNOW YOUR INFORMATION!!

Group: Each group will be made up of groups of 4 students (more if necessary). Each group member will contribute and be in class during the research and presentation period. I expect each member to be working while in class. There will be no sitting in talking, this is a GROUP project. Those that are absent for extended periods of time, don’t show up on presentation day, aren’t working within the group, will not receive the same points as the rest of the group. It is the group’s responsibility that the group has access to their work. If a group member is absent, the rest of the group must be able to continue. If all of the work is on someone else’s h drive, and the group can’t work, they will be asked to start from scratch. Each group member is responsible for their portion and for participating in the powerpoint presentation to the class. The powerpoint presentation should be approximately 5 minutes, although it may be longer in length if necessary. The group will also need to include an assignment to go with their presentation: worksheet, wordfind, etc.

Grading/Rubric: Points will be broken down as follows:

_____/75 points Powerpoint (Information, layout and presentation)

_____/25 points Assessment (Worksheet, wordfind, etc)

_____/25 points Participation (Being present, participation in collecting information and in the

presentation)

The following battles will be given to each group:

  1. The Battle of the Bulge
  2. The Battle of El Alamein
  3. The Battles of Iwo Jima
  4. The Battle of Stalingrad
  5. The Battle of Midway

Information can be found on from the text and from other websites.

Do NOT limit yourself to 1 website or text. I’m expecting a long and involved presentation.
