Experience /
  • Minimum 2 years experience within the maritime industry demonstrating progressive levels of responsibility in the areas of vessel/marine operations.
  • Working knowledge of vessel planning/space calculations preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written are required.
  • Strong Computer skills in Word, Excel - Lotus notes preferable.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of normal hours basis vessel movement.
  • Ability to make decisions while under pressure and justify the same.
  • Understanding of cargo operations and experience with ILA operations is a plus.
  • Work well internally and externally, including colleagues, customers, and vendors.

Responsibilities / Marine Stowage Planner (U.S. East Coast)
(1) Preparing and distributing stow plans for RoRo vessels within the following trades:
  • North South America (U.S East Coast, Gulf, Mexico, Central America, South America)
  • U.S East Coast/Gulf to Middle East
  • U.S East Coast to Far East
  • U.S East Coast to West Coast South America
  • U.S West Coast to Far east and beyond
  • Trade Lanes as agreed upon with Marine Team
(2) Preparation and distribution of stow plans consists of :
  • Working with Trade Departments and local port offices for booking info.
  • Communicating with Vessels regarding adjustable panels, tentative stow, and stability calculations (Chief Mates)
  • Obtaining final booking summary for each port, cross checking it with load guides from port CSR for creation of an efficient stow plan.
  • Coordinating with Operations and Area Managers regarding cargo location in port, loading sequence, gang size, production, etc.
  • Distributing plan to vessel, stevedores, and NYK teams for local planning.
Task includes a Final stow plan and Cargo Summary for all load ports. Info sent to vessels, various NYK offices, stevedores and agents in discharge ports.
(3) Vessel space calculation and management
  • Obtain booking info from respective Trade departments for space availability and maximization of stow.
  • Provide space info for present and future vessels in order to maximize
  • Work with other offices/agents regarding additional cargo bookings to enhance overall revenue based on space.
  • Close out vessel with actual space utilization report.
(4) Marine Technical Support
  • Investigate and report cargo handling capabilities within destination ports.
  • Provide Sales and Trade teams info regarding general cargo characteristics and handling capabilities. This in conjunction with Operations and Area Managers in respective regions.
(5)Vessel attendance for training and knowledge as needed.
  • Goal of attendance is to acquire knowledge base of vessel layout, cargo makeup, operations, and handling.
  • As requested by Supervisor and Management in coordination with work load .
This will require interaction with stevedores in all types of weather and can be outside of normal business hours.
(6) Miscellaneous
  • Any other stow, handling support and operational duties as requested by Management.
