Direction

Event will be signed from Blaenavon at junction of B4246/ B4248 and from Brynmawr on B4248.

Parking

Vehicles travelling from Brynmawr to park on waste ground on northern side of B4248. Cars approaching from Blaenavon to park in main tarmack car park , on south side adjacent to B4248.

Dogs on leads in Car Parks only. NOT allowed in hall or competition area.

Terrain Open moorland with some intricate contour detail. Do not attempt to cross any of the steep crags marked on the map. They will not be marked with tape on the ground.

Assembly, EOD, Enquiries, Results, Homemade Soup & Hot Drinks ( from Welsh Junior Squad), Download, Creche, Toilets & Ultrasport Trader will all be inside Garn-yr-Erw Hall ,which is located close to the parking and finish.

The Creche will be open 1015-1215.

Warning- the hall opens directly onto the Main B4248 which is a busy road. Please take care when exiting the building. PLEASE USE THE MANNED ROAD CROSSING POINTS.

Start

Walk to start is approx 600m, mostly flat and will take 15-20mins depending on where parked. The walk is adjacent to the B4248, please keep on the narrow footpath and ONLY use the manned crossing points to cross the road. IT IS UNSUITABLE FOR PUSHCHAIRS.

It is advisable to carry a whistle and a cagoule.

IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER.,CAGOULES MAY BE COMPULSARY.

Notices will be displayed in car parks and assembly.

Finish

Drinks provided at finish at end of track, which is approx 400m. Please use manned crossing points to return to both hall and carparks. Keep to the pavements on this busy road.

Prize Giving Hopefully between 1430-1500 or earlier if possible.

Trophies awarded to eligible winners of all age classes.

Momentos given to all eligible class winners plus 2nd & 3rd placings on M/W10 to M/W18 inclusive.

Eligibility for prizes and trophies (extract from rules)

An orienteer may qualify to compete for prizes/trophies in the Welsh Orienteering

Championships if he/she is a member of the Association at the date of the Championships

ANDcomplies with at least one of the following criteria:

• birth – either self or one parent born in Wales

• residence – at least one year’s current permanent residence in Wales

Others may compete in the Championships as well, but are not eligible for trophies or prizes.

Setting of the Fabian4 GBR Country field – the SI download team identify Welsh Championship eligibility by the use of “CYM” in the GBR Country field. If you are eligible for the Welsh Champs then you must set this field to “CYM”. If you are not eligible then you must set it to “ENG”, “SCO”, “NI” or leave blank. Please check that you have set this field correctly (from the start list) and amend via the Fabian4 Amend Entry function if necessary.
