Course Descriptions

Business Keyboarding / Business Leadership: The purpose of this course is to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to instruction in introductory keyboarding, introductory word processing, introductory electronic presentation, introductory computer hardware, introductory Internet, and soft skills for business applications.

Computer Apps in Business 1 & 2: The purpose of this course is to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to instruction in intermediate keyboarding, intermediate word processing, intermediate electronic presentation, intermediate computer hardware, intermediate Internet, introductory to intermediate spreadsheet, introductory digital design, and soft skills for business applications.

Computer Apps in Business 3 & 4: The purpose of this course is to assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to instruction in advanced spreadsheet, intermediate digital design, introductory database, introductory web design, and soft skills for business applications.

Introduction to Information Technology: This course is designed to provide an introduction to information technology concepts and careers as well as the impact information technology has on the world, people, and industry and basic web design concepts. The content includes information technology career research; operating systems and software applications; electronic communications including e-mail and Internet services; emerging technologies, and Web page design. Upon successful completion of this course (earn “B” or higher) students will receive High School credit. Students may be selected to sit for the IBA Certification test and potentially earn college credit.

PLEASE NOTE: All of the computer courses have a REQUIRED end of course exam per semester. Intro to IT students may be selected to sit for an additional exam to earn certification and college credit.

Grading Structure

The Grading structure is as follows: Notebooks 10%; Assignments and Quizzes 30%; Projects and Tests 40%, End of Course Exam 20%

Computer Lab Donations

In order to maintain computer peripherals and purchase consumable materialsit is helpful to have a donation. A cash or check donation of $10.00 or more is greatly appreciated!Please make checks payable to Lakeview Middle School. Include the student’s name and student number on the memo line of your check.

Supplies

Students are required to have:

a spiral notebook with a pocket

ball point pen (blue or black ink only)

ear buds (headphones)

Student Expectations

•No food or drinks in the classroom.

•Using cell phones in class to text or call is prohibited. Keep them off and out of sight.

•Do not download music files or use the computer to listen to music unless they are part of an assigned computer project.

•Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings.

•Do not get out of your seat without permission.If you need to go to the restroom or get a drink of water, please get my permission. Do not ask while I am presenting a lesson or giving a demonstration.

•Playing video games (including having video games minimized on your screen), streaming videos/music, or any other activity that is not related to this class is prohibited. Your activity is being monitored.

•You may not install or download software without permission. This action has been turned off by group policies, but some exceptions may apply.

•Be gentle with our computers. If you cannot troubleshoot your own technical issues, ask me.

•Tampering with your classmate’s computer is a serious matter and can result in immediate disciplinary action. This includes shutting it off, unplugging the keyboard or mouse, deleting files.

•Everything you create in this class must be G rated.

•You may not try to go around any blocks that are put on the computers. The school’s computers have filters that block certain web sites. If a web site is blocked by a filter, you may not use a proxy server or any other trick to go around the block.

Consequences

1st offense: Warning

2nd offense: Student Conference and Behavior Reflection

3rd offense: Detention

4th offense: Referral

Make-up work / Late work

It is the student’s responsibility to find out what was missed during an absence.

Students have 1 day for every day missed to turn in assignments. After that time the Late Work policy will apply.

10% will be deducted from the total points possible on any assignment turned in after the due date PER DAY. No late work will be accepted after the marking period has ended.

Allwork will be available from the class website

Tardiness

Students must be in their seats and on task when the tardy bell rings.

Frequent tardies (3 or more)will result in a detention and/or administrative referral.

Detentions

Detentions are served before or after school depending on teacher availability.

A form will be provided for parents to sign.

If a student is unable to attend, parents must contact the teacher to reschedule BEFORE the serve date. Failure to attend a detention may result in a referral.
