A walk on the anniversary of the ‘Tottenham Outrage’

Tuesday 23 January 11am

Meet outside Tottenham Hale Station near the barriers to the Greater Anglia above ground line.

About 2 hours. A linear route finishing at the Billet roundabout (34, 97, 158, 215 bus routes) with optional extension to Highams Park. Mainly firm surfaces but some soft mud, a footbridge where water collects after rain, manageable slopes.

Beside the River Ching upstream (partly a continuation of the ‘Tottenham Outrage’ route)

Meet outside the former Walthamstow Stadium (dog track) opposite the entrance to Sainsbury’s by the North Circular Road.

Linear walk of about 2 hours to Chingford Hatch (buses 212 and 357) with some wet, muddy and uneven paths.Before the muddiest paths passes the end of the Tottenham Outrage chase at the Royal Oak, 320 Hale End Road (junction with Oak Hill), Highams Park IG8 9LN (bus 275; about 10 minutes walk from Highams Park Station).

Meet outside Costa coffee shop, Leyton Mills shopping centre near Leyton Central Line Station E10 5NH

Linear walk of about 2 hoursfinishing at Whipps Cross Hospital, James Lane entrance (buses W15, W19). Opportunities to cut the walk short by public transport.

2nd chance Beside the River Ching upstream (partly a continuation of the ‘Tottenham Outrage’ route

A circular walk of about 2 hours over muddy ground with steep hills.

To the Walthamstow Wetlands

Meet outside Lea Bridge Station (also served by buses 48, 55 & 56)

A linear walk of about 2 hours partly over muddy ground to the Walthamstow Wetlands’ Forest Road entrance opposite the Ferry Boat Inn, (123 and 230 bus routes or 15 minutes walk to Victoria Line; café at the Wetlands)
