Winners receive certificate and trophy

Second and third place getters will receive certificate.

TEAMS’ EVENT:

To enter teams’ event, there must be a minimum of 4 runners / maximum of 5 runners in a team for each given year / gender group. You may enter a team in any one or number of the 4 year / gender groups.

Teams cannot be mixed boys and girls.

In small schools you may want to move Yr 7 pupils up to Yr 8 to make a team, but they must then run in that year / gender group as well in the individual competition. (So if a Y7 boy moves up to make up a Y8 team, he will be running in the Y8 individual championship then as well).

Children can only move up, not down.

SCHOOLS’ EVENT:

There are three divisions as per the athletics and swimmers.

Under 100 pupils – best three runners scores to count

100 – 300 pupils – best six runners scores to count

300 + pupils – best twelve runners scores to count

Your scores can come from any year / gender group. So if you have 2 x 1st and 1 x 6th = 8 points – lowest score wins.

ORGANISATION:

Competitors must compete in school colours and have school’s allocated number written on each runners hand. (Only runners who are part of a team need a number. Individual runners do not need a number). Your school number will be sent back to you once your entry is received.

Children may run in bare feet or wear suitable footwear – no running spikes are permitted.

The course will be fully marked and marshalled.

St John’s Ambulance personnel will be in attendance.

Usual Cross Country rules apply.

Please ensure your entrants are familiar with end of race procedures. Runners must stay in order as they file through the finishing chute as every participant will receive a number tag, which will be used to work out team points.

All runners MUST record in at the end of each race to ensure place secured in team event.

Each school / team must be accompanied by a manager and for every 2 teams you enter, you must send a person to assist as either a marshal or recorder.

Designated assembly area where participants are to remain when they are not competing will be clearly marked. Team managers please ensure children abide by this rule. Participants must stay in the designated area when not running. In the past there have been problems with people on the course, particularly by the finish chute. Participants must also wait for their event to be called before moving to the starting area.

AWARDS/POINTS:

First 5 individual names recorded. First 3 receive certificates.

Individual champion in each year / gender group will receive a trophy.

Points awarded – the number of points relate to the place e.g. 11th place – 11 points. These points are used to determine best team in each category – best four runners per team. The team with the lowest overall points will be the winner.

School Award – refer to the notes above.

COURSE:

Course will be marked with cones and marshals. A large scale map will be up at the event and small maps will be available to take with you as you register upon arrival, so you can walk children around the course and familiarise them with the layout.
