Vice President, Philanthropy, Marketing and Communications

OBJECTIVE

As a skilled, experienced executive with a record of innovation and success as a fundraiser and marketer, the VP Philanthropy, Marketing and Communications will develop opportunities and convert them to results. With an impressive fund-raising record, the VP will lead the national team, providing strategic and operational direction to a senior team of five Directors through superb relationship skills with internal and external stakeholders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising:

  • Lead Directors in creation of long term and annual plans to deliver fundraising goals based on a portfolio of events, campaigns, raffles/lotteries, partnerships, corporate and individual major gifts
  • Develop planning based on comprehensive data and reporting to lead cultivation strategies based on history, relationship and geography
  • Identify key stewardship opportunities with corporate and individual donors for further engagement

Marketing and Communication:

  • Create and implement the strategic marketing and communications plan for national, regional and local impact consisting of Direct Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Communications/PR
  • Lead the marketing and communication team to execute brand, campaign and PR programs to support fundraising and mission (research, advocacy, health promotion and support services)

Staff and team:

  • Manage and inspire a senior group of fundraising and marketing professionals who either lead teams or act as key individual contributors
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing according to campaign/other needs for optimal performance and results

Financial and Contract Management:

  • Establish and track annual fundraising and program goals in concert with strategic plan, Executive and Board
  • Manage donor and sponsorship contracts

Senior Management and Governance:

  • Attend Board meetings to act as a resource, as required, while ensuring ownership of any action items or outcomes
  • Work closely with the Mission team on communication activities which support relationships between PCC and its external constituents
  • Champion philanthropy in all aspects of PCC culture internally and externally with staff, volunteers and donors

DECISION MAKING

Approves:

  • Departmental business plans and operating budgets
  • Staff complement including interns and summer students
  • Contracts and MOUs prior to finance/legal

Contributes to:

  • Strategic planning with SMT
  • PCC annual plans
  • Finance and Research departments planning as required

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

Internal

  • Senior Management Team
  • Attends regular senior management meetings with CEO, VP Finance and Regulatory Affairs and VP Research Health Promotion and Survivorship to monitor results, adjust operations, prepare for Board meetings
  • Direct Reports
  • National Director, Partnerships and Community Giving
  • Director, Direct Marketing
  • Director, Digital Marketing
  • Executive Directors, Western and Atlantic Regions
  • Manager, Communications
  • Board and committee members
  • Attends Board and relevant committee meetings to provide updates or obtain input on key campaigns or issues

  • Donors, Corporate Partners and Sponsors
  • Attend prospecting, closing or stewardship meetings with Directors or CEO
  • Key agencies and external partners
  • Develop and maintain relationships with both paid and pro bono vendors providing marketing, advertising or communications services to PCC

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-secondary Education: / Degree or diploma in a related field, such as
  • Marketing and communications
  • Philanthropy, fundraising
  • Sales and business development

Other /
  • Demonstrated success in developing and meeting aggressive targets
  • Managing competing priorities
  • Leading a diversely qualified team
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills

Experience /
  • Minimum 10 years’ combined experience in fundraising, marketing and business development, preferably with at least 5 years in an executive role
  • Proven leadership experience working in a high performance, team environment, including experience managing fundraising professionals and supporting high-profile volunteers
  • Extensive experience in both campaign development and partner cultivation

Certification / Fundraising professional certification an asset.
