Title: Medical Parasitology course

1) Course aim: The main goal of the course of Parasitology is to cover the knowledgeessential for the candidate to know the origin and effects of the most importantpathogenic parasites that affect man. The module introduces the parasites and it analyses how andwhy the parasites cause disease. It highlights the different methods of diagnosis, management andcontrol. The course covers also Medical entomology with special emphasis on the medicalimportance of arthropods that affect man and main lines of control.

2) Intended learning outcomes (ILOs):

a- By the end of this course the student must be able to pick the following:

a.1 Name parasites causing diseases to man.

a.2 Mention the geographical distribution of each parasite.

a.3 Localize the organs inhabited by the parasite.

a.4 Describe the morphological features of parasite.

a.5 Identify the mode of infection with parasite.

a.6 Describe the life cycle of the parasite.

a.7 Describe the clinical presentations of the parasite.

a.8 Enumerate the diagnostic techniques.

a.9 Write the treatment of each parasitic disease.

a.10 Name the preventive measures to avoid the infection by this parasite in

relation to theenvironmental factors.

a.11 Identify how to use the microscope.
