Position Description

Position Title: / Cleaner
Classification: / Support Worker Level 2
Award: / Individual employment agreement, with conditions based on the Children’s Services Award 2010
Hours Per week: / Part time 6 hours per week
Responsible to: / Practice Leader Early Years, Kindergarten Teacher
Any special conditions: / Located at St Andrew’s Kindergarten (Warragul)
Key Summary of Functions:
This position is responsible for the cleaning of the Kindergarten in accordance with the specific cleaning schedule for the Kindergarten that the position is located.

Key Duties:

  • Ensure that the prescribed cleaning and maintenance routine is completed

at each cleaning shift.

  • Ensure that supplies of cleaning equipment and products are maintained and stored safely.
  • Report major items for repair or replacement to the Kindergarten teacher.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Undertake review and evaluation of the cleaning schedule at least

annually with the Kindergarten teacher.

Kindergarten Cleaner’s Duties

  • The cleaner is to ensure that a high level of hygiene is maintained and that cleaning equipment for a specific area, for example the kitchen is only used in that area.
  • Duties can be completed at your time and convenience, but must be after 5pm and must occur on the day in which the kinder has been used. This is to ensure that food scraps are not left sitting in bins to attract pests.
  • The Kindergarten must be clean before the start of each session.
  • Cleaning must occur outside session times –5pm as specified

List of Duties

The cleaner is required to perform the following duties:

Daily

  • Check soap, toilet paper and paper towel dispensers and refill if necessary.
  • Wipe kitchen benches and sink.
  • Collect rubbish and place in external bins ready for collection.
  • Sweep/Vacuum and mop floors using detergent or disinfectant provided.
  • Spot clean windows and carpets if necessary.
  • Ensure that the room is clean and ready for the next session.
  • Clean staff toilet and hand basin.
  • Clean children’s toilets and hand basins
  • Sweep porch and foyer areas.
  • Replace chairs at tables in room.
  • Wiping of tables and children’s chairs as needed.

Weekly

  • Place external bins on road ready for rubbish collection.

Monthly

  • Dust all windowsills, and other dust collection surfaces.
  • Check stocks of cleaning supplies and re-order from supplier.
  • Disinfect telephone.
  • Wipe over and in children’s lockers as required

1 Week Xmas Holiday break cleaning

  • Scrub down tables and chairs
  • Take cobwebs down from inside and outside building and in any areas in the yard that the children can reach.
  • Clean underneath carpet squares.
  • Ensure the kinder is clean prior to commencement of term

Half Yearly

  • Cleaner to organise contractors (approved by committee) to clean carpets, strip and seal floors (if applicable) You may be asked to open building to allow entry to contractors.
  • Clean ceiling fans

Yearly

  • Cleaner to organise contractor (approved by committee) to clean windows and spray for spiders.
  • Disinfect external wheelie bins

Other Duties as directed, peripheral to the position.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential:

  1. Clear Victorian police check or a UnitingCare Gippsland Fit2work.
  2. Current Victorian Drivers License.
  3. Current Working with Children’s Check
  4. Ability to complete the cleaning schedule of the kindergarten in the prescribed time.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Key Qualifications:

None specifically, however experience in cleaning and/ or building maintenance.
