Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Development and as a member ofthe Foundation team supporting Grandview Kids, the Development Officer is responsible for ensuring that the annual fundraising program meets and/or exceeds annual goal. The Development Officer is required to interface regularly with Grandview Kids staff and donors and will work closely with the Executive Director of Development in the execution and administration of all aspects of the Foundation’s annual, major and planned giving activities.

The incumbent will mirror the mission and values of Grandview Kids to the community, volunteers and the children, youth and families we serve.

Responsibilities:

• Assists in the cultivation of prospective donors to enhance and encourage charitable giving and in donor recognition;

• Develops new relationships and fosters ongoing relationships with donors;

• Creates customized plans to ask donors for funding;

• Assists with the development of marketing materials to support the work of the organization in consultation with Foundation leadership;

• Plans and implements signature events hosted by the organization in order to interact with both current and potential donors;

• Secures financial support through grants and sponsorship proposals from Foundations and Corporations;

• Interacts with community partners to encourage third-party fundraising initiatives;

• Assists in the management of all aspects of Grandview Kids donor recognition, stewardship, and cultivation processes and ensures effective strategies are in place that will allow the Foundation to continue to build on relationships with leadership donors;

• Monitors progress toward specific fundraising goals;

• Provides leadership with regard to the deployment and supervision of event volunteers;

• Ensures that all gifts are received in accordance with Foundation policy and procedures;

• Carries out other related duties as assigned; and

• Observes strict confidentiality regarding client and donor information.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge: Full understanding of the principles and practices of fundraising, public relations and marketing.

Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the public, with representatives of service clubs and corporations, staff and volunteers; Excellent computer skills including use of e-tapestry; Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal; outgoing and extremely detail-oriented.

Ability: To show initiative, enthusiasm and creativity; to work with minimal direction to achieve goals; to foster good relations with others, within and outside the organization; to organize and carry out a wide range of concurrent activities; to work well under pressure of deadlines, and changing priorities.

Education:Post-secondary degree or an equivalent combination of formal training and experience

Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in a fundraising environment;preference will be given to candidates with experience in a not- for-profit setting; Experience in fundraising software and data base management; CFRE credential or working toward certification will be considered an asset.

Working Conditions:Must possess a valid Ontario driver’s license and have access to a motor vehicle or have access to reliable transportation; the normal hours of work for the position are 37.5 hours per week this includes some evenings and weekends.
