3. / ANNOUNCEMENTS AND PERSONALIA:
3.1 / From the Associate Dean: Dr Maja informed the meeting that both Prof E Tyobeka and Mr M Smit’s fathers have passed away. The meeting conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved families and observed a moment of silence in memory of the departed.
The meeting took note that 18 advertisements for vacancies in the Faculty were compiled and signed.
Dr Maja gave briefly feedback on the recent CRIC meeting which she attended.
3.2 / Special Days: Ms Louise Viljoen was congratulated on her birthday (8 May).
3.3 / From the Departments:
Adelaide Tambo School of Nursing Science: Dr L Maree reported that she and Ms R De Swardt attended a workshop at the Nursing Council with regard to the new curriculum. Their proposed new curriculum has to be submitted to the Council in October.
Physics: Dr Asante reported that his Department is also busy with the proposed new curriculum for Industrial Chemistry. Dr Asante was invited to give a presentation at the University of Pretoria. He also informed the meeting that Mr F Simpson is back in hospital.
Pharmaceutical Sciences: Dr Enslin informed the meeting that Prof A Viljoen was invited as keynote speaker at the International Symposium on Essential Oils in Germany in September 2008. Dr Enslin is attending the annual meeting of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa where the Heads of Pharmacy Schools will meet. She will then give feedback on the progress of the organisation of the 29th Annual Conference of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of South Africa.
Environmental Health: Ms I Mokgobu reported that they lost about R260 000 worth of equipment as a result of a series of burglaries at the Department.
Environmental, Water and Earth Sciences: Dr R Jansen informed the meeting that Dr M Lupankwa’s father-in law has passed sway.
Crop Sciences: Prof P J van Vuuren informed the meeting that Dr Methu has taken up his position on Monday.
Animal Sciences: Dr Sutherland informed the meeting that has been nominated to serve on a working committee of SACNASP, who will evaluated the qualification requirements for registration in the field of Practice: Animal Science
