Daphne Matteo Leahy writes: Many of us spend countless hours understanding, processing and analyzing our own traumatic histories.

We do this first to heal ourselves, and then to make sure that we can be optimally available as clinicians for our clients as we are privileged facilitators of and witnesses to their healing journeys. We become adept at recognizing and processing our counter-transference and the impact of projective identification not only in the service of the therapeutic relationship, but for our lives and psyche outside of the office. Though we are all aware of the physical toll that our therapeutic work can have, particularly when working with extremely traumatized clients, we often override our awareness, imagining that a good night's sleep and a long vacation is all it will take to restore our physical equilibrium. Though this will certainly help, there is more we can do during sessions, between sessions, and directly after a long day to restore our nervous systems. This experiential presentation will explore, expand and enhance clinical self-awareness and ways to help us maintain emotional and physical well-being throughout our day.
