Oba Adetimehin visits FEDPOLEL

HisRoyal Majesty, Oba Dr. Julius Adetimehin, Jegun of Ile-Oluji Kingdom visited the Academic Take-Off site of the Polytechnic on Friday, 2nd September, 2016to inspect the laboratories and other available facilities.The Rector, Prof. E. A. Fasakin, and other Principal Officers received him and his team warmly. Welcoming him and his team, the Rector, Prof. E. A. Fasakin, took him on a tour of the Academic campus which includes the laboratories, lecture rooms, offices and the Library. Thereafter, a brief meeting was held at the Conference Room of Academic Take-off Campus (ATC). At the meeting, the Rector, on behalf of the Management team appreciated the Jegun and his Council for the visit and continuous support towards the development of the Polytechnic. He further stated that the Polytechnic had recruited top-quality Teaching and Non-teaching staff to service the five Academic Programmes intended for take-off. Moreover, he affirmed that in preparation to kick-start Academic activities, the NBTE advisory/inspection team had visited the Polytechnic to inspect facilities and personnel available and academic activities would kick-off in the Polytechnic as soon as the report of the accreditation is approved. He also used the medium to appreciate Prof. Bola Akinterinwa, Engr. Sam Adegboyega and other notable indigenes of the Community who have been supportive of the administration of the Polytechnic.

Responding, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr. Julius Adetimehin thanked the Management team for the warm reception and reassured the team of his continuous support to the administration of the Polytechnic. Thereafter, the Kabiyesi and his High Chiefs were taken to the Centre for Skill Acquisition and Vocational training; former Piccolo Brunneli construction company for inspection.

FEDPOLEL opens financial bid for the construction of access road and electricity at the Permanent site

The Management of the Polytechnic, opened financial bids for the construction of access road (LOT 1) and provision of electricity to the permanent site (LOT 2) on Monday, 19th September, 2016. Present at the event were the Principal Officers, the Management team, external observers and the bidders. In his remarks, the Rector, Prof. E. A. Fasakin welcomed bidders and observers present at the event and congratulated qualified bidders for the two (2) capital projects. He stated that the provisions of the Procurement Act was strictly adhered to during the short listing process and eight (8) contestants emerged as successful bidders for LOT 1while two (2) bidders scaled through out of fifteen (15) bidders for LOT 2. He congratulated the shortlisted bidders for making it to the second stage which was the financial bid. He added that the best bid would emerge as the winner for the bids. He assured the bidders that the process would be fair and transparent. Thereafter, the financial bid was opened for LOT 1 and LOT 2. The consultant figure for LOT 1 was N545 159 473. 04k and the completion period nine (9) months while LOT 2 was N154 581 000.00k and completion period six (6) months.

FEDPOLEL inaugurates Academic Board

The Principal Officers of the Polytechnic at their meeting held on Monday, 19th September 2016, approved the inauguration of the Academic Board of the Polytechnic to supervise the development of academic activities in the Polytechnic. The membership of the Academic Board is spelt below:

The inaugural meeting of the Academic Board was held on Thursday, 22nd September, 2016 at the Academic Take-Off campus. During the meeting, the Chairman, Prof. E. A. Fasakin, Ffs, Fica, welcomed members of the Board to the history making event. He stated that the need to inaugurate the Academic Board and legally empower it to be able to perform its statutory functionsis asa result of academic activities that would soon commence in the Polytechnic. He also stated that the membership of the Academic Board leveraged on the provisions of the Federal Polytechnics Act, FEDPOLEL Academic Brief and the conventions in sister Federal Polytechnics which he promulgated to members of the Board. He added that the Academic Board also hasthe statutory responsibilities for directing and managing academic matters of the Polytechnic, regulating the admission of students, award of certificates, diplomas, scholarships, prizes and other academic distinctions, making periodic reports on such academic matter as the Academic Board may think fit to the Governing Council from time to time, discharging any other functions which the Governing Council may delegate to it, superintending the good character and discipline of students, approving and ensuring the periodic review of the curricula of all academic programmes of the Polytechnic, promoting and encouraging research, reviewing from time to time the Polytechnic’s academic policies and regulations, and forwarding recommendations in that regard to the Governing Council for necessary action; and advising on any other ‘matters’ referred to it by the Governing Council and the Polytechnic’s Management. He therefore, admonished members of the Board to be exceptional in the discharge of their duties. Thereafter, examination results for the first semester, 2015/2016 session for Pre-ND and Certificate Courses were considered and approved by the Board.

INEC (Ondo) visits FEDPOLEL

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) visited the Polytechnic on Thursday, 22nd September, 2016to formally inform the Polytechnic about the up- coming gubernatorial election in the state. The team was welcomed byPrincipal Officers and Staff at the Academic Take-off Campus auditorium. The team led by the Resident Electoral Commissioner(REC), Mr. Olusegun Agbaje stated thatvarious efforts have been put in place in preparation for the exercise and assured that credible and conclusive elections would be conducted in Ondo State. He added that election credibility would be aided and electoral malpractice curbed, with the introduction of the Smartcard Reader. He informed the staff present that a list of political parties and candidates would be published before the date of election and prior to that, orientation and awareness programmes would be organised for people in order to guide against electoral violence.

Speaking further, the REC stated that the commission would need the assistance of staff of the Polytechnic as ad-hoc staff during the election. He added that such staff would be trained on how to use the election materials prior to the election. He appreciated the Management team for the warm reception and informed the staff that INEC has created a different modus operandi for the voting exercise, adding that the accreditation and voting exercise had been merged and that the two stages would be conducted simultaneously.

Responding, the Rector, Prof. E. A. Fasakin thanked the REC and his team for the visit. He also appreciated the staff present for honouring his call, and stated that the call was to test the sincerity and diligence of staff. While addressing the staff, he admonished them to use the election exercise as an opportunity to serve and contribute to the nation. He also assured the REC and his team of his support to ensure the success of the exercise and urged the Commission to be transparent while dealing with the Ad-hoc Staff in terms of payment.
