The California Charter Schools Association (CCSA) advances the charter school movement through state and local advocacy, leadership on accountability, and resources for member schools. CCSA is a trusted source of data and information on California's charter schools for parents, charter school authorizers, legislators and other elected officials, the press and other interested groups. CCSA Families is the statewide parent organizing arm of the California Charter Schools Association. The mission of CCSA Families is to educate, empower and mobilize charter school families to utilize their voice and power to hold local and state level elected leaders accountable for treating charter schools equitably and to increase the number of high quality educational options for families. CCSA Families goals are to build power and to use that power base to win elections, working with and through CCSA Advocates, and hold elected officials accountable to high quality education options for families.

Job description: TheParent Organizing Director – Northern Californiaorganizes parents and manages a team of parent organizers in the Northern Californian region. The Parent Organizing Director – Southern Californiaorganizes parents and manages a team of parent organizers inthe Southern California region. Both positionsare responsible for managing, motivating, supporting and holding a team of parent organizers accountable to their goals. The position also organizes charter school families at one school site and reports to the Managing Parent Organizing Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Management and Training: Develop and lead a team of highly successful Parent Organizers focused on building parent leadership and winning local issue campaigns
  • Provide leadership trainings and materials to a team of 5 parent organizers in the Northern California region and 5-10 parent organizers in the Southern California region
  • Provide onboarding trainings to new hires
  • Track team’s benchmarks, goals and overall progress in database and through weekly check-ins
  • Shadow parent organizers in the field and provide feedback
  • Develop educational materials and training modules for core supporters and stakeholders
  • Manage information through a database management system
  • Recruitment and Organization Building: Implement and win electoral campaigns, lead voter education and registration drives, and recruit new parent leaders
  • Recruit and develop a core group of school leaders, parents and families to mobilize on advocacy and election issues at one school site
  • Develop and execute recruitment plan with measurable goals and key benchmarks
  • Engage community leaders and organizations on charter school issues and initiatives
  • Develop and execute voter education and mobilization plans for targeted campaigns
  • Plan and execute targeted actions such as rallies, events and letter writing campaigns to support issue advocacy initiatives, and local elected officials and candidates in conjunction with CCSA Advocates

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional weeknights and weekends; ability to travel and work remotely; driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Nice to Haves:

  • 5-15years experience
  • Management experience
  • Experience in community organizing strategy and execution
  • Political organizing, campaigning, lobbying, training or relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Spanish preferred
