JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title / Director of MIS and Planning
Reporting to / Deputy CEOCorporate Services
Overall Responsibilities / To direct and develop the Department in line with the College’s strategic aims.
Key Success Criteria /
  • Totake corporate responsibility for policy formulation, developmental planning, oversight and implementation of corporate strategy and continual quality improvement and to ensure that the Executive Leadership Team is aware of and briefed on relevant areas of responsibility.
  • Accountable for all aspects of the strategic and operational management of the College’s Management Information Services; Student Records, Admissions, Exams and Management Reports.
  • Timely submission of ILRs to Skills Funding Agency (or equivalent)

Main Task: Management Information /
  • To develop, direct and monitor all aspects of the strategic planning and delivery of the College’s Management Information Services;
  • To direct and ensure the effective management and delivery of the College’s Student Records and Admissions service;
  • To lead on the College course planning, costing, and review processes.
  • To provide accurate and timely KPIs to ensure that the College can meet its targets
  • To provide funding knowledge to Curriculum Directors
  • To actively promote operational efficiencies using new technologies.
  • To direct and ensure the effective management and delivery of the College’s Exams service;
  • To be responsible for the management of HE data
  • To develop IT solutions for management information services
  • To ensure that robust processes are in place to support Fees Policy and collection of such fees
  • To be responsible for ensuring effective and timely management reports and analysis for a variety of internal and external audiences;
  • To prepare reports for the Corporation and asappropriate and Chair relevant Collegecommittees and working groups;

Main Task: Business Development /
  • To contribute to the overall leadership and
  • strategic development of the College;
  • To advise the Principal and other members of the Executive Leadership Team and the Board on the development of College policy in the post holder’s areas of responsibility;
  • To work with the Executive Leadership Team to agree key performance indicators for the College and for the post holder’s area of responsibility and to put in place mechanisms to ensure that these are achieved;
  • To develop effective strategic partnerships and working relationships with key stakeholders;

Main Task: Quality Standards /
  • To lead the department to ensure a culture of continuous improvement to meet agreed quality standards
  • To ensure compliance with the QA procedures of the College and its external partners
  • To ensure that QA data and processes provide timely and accurate reporting of data

Main Task: Business Excellence /
  • To ensure effective and efficient use of departmental resources including the deployment of staff
  • To work with the DCEO on the development of the College’s strategic plan
  • To develop and lead the department business plan
  • To prepare and manage the department budget

Main Task: People Management /
  • To manage all aspects of the agreed staff establishment including performance management, appraisal and staff development in line with college polices and procedures
  • To develop, lead and motivate self-managed teams

General /
  • To ensure effective internal and external faculty communications
  • To develop a culture of high quality customer service for both internal and external customers and ensure that effective service level agreements are in place to facilitate this
  • To be aware of, comply with and promote Safeguarding policies and practices at all times.
  • To promote Equality & Diversity within teaching and learning and monitor faculty compliance with good practice in this area.

  • Relevant experience in related function at senior management level
  • A track record of experience of directing and managing a college information service and providing complex and relevant information statistical information to ELT, Governors and Funding bodies
  • Experience of successfully managing a student records database system and exams service
  • Successful track record of meeting the needs of a complex organisation and its customers
  • Significant relevant experience of developing and implementing quality systems and procedures.
  • Direct relevant experience of strategic and curriculum planning processes particularly in relation to the areas covered by this post
  • Experience of effective and successful staff leadership, management and development
