The Pinnacle Awards, and What Rockland Businesses Can Teach Us About Giving Back to the Community

Every year, the Rockland Business Association bestows its Pinnacle Awards to those outstanding people, businesses and non-profits who have made significant contributions to our community. This year, the Rockland Community Foundation is honored to have been selected for Outstanding Achievement by a Non-Profit Organization. We proudly join Clarkstown Supervisor Alexander Gromack, TD Bank, Chris Bailey, Jonathan Drapkin and Casabella Holdings, as each of us accepts a Pinnacle Award in our respective categories at a reception on April 17th.

It is an absolute privilege to have been selected on this, the tenth anniversary of the Pinnacle Awards. Equally honorable is the fact that for ten years, Rockland's business leaders have recognized that success and community commitment often go hand-in-hand.

There is an incredible spirit of philanthropy in our business community. While it does not always scream out for all to see, it is always present, and working to build a better place for us to raise our families. Attend any local event and you will see the names of companies who have signed on as sponsors. The sports our children play are made possible by local businesses without whose support little leagues and soccer leagues would not be able to exist. Rotary clubs and other similar organizations in Rockland are comprised of local businesspeople committed to doing good work, often unheard and behind the scenes.

Virtually every major business in our county has a charitable component, with monies put aside to fund programs, support non-profits, provide student scholarships, and more. Some businesses have their own foundations. Others have established funds with the Rockland Community Foundation, supporting programs for specific causes. Still others have both!

Equally important are the smaller local businesses that sponsor little league teams, host events to help a family in need, help offset the costs of scenery for a school play, or organize can drives to support a local food pantry.

Big or small, or somewhere in-between, you are all the (sometimes unsung) heroes who truly define what is good in our community. We dedicate this week's Community Cares blog to the Rockland Business Association, and to all those businesses who recognize that being successful, and doing what's right, are not mutually exclusive.

About the Community Cares Blog and the Rockland Community Foundation

The Community Cares Blog, hosted by the Rockland Community Foundation, celebrates the spirit of giving in our community. Each week, we will post a story of philanthropy or shine a spotlight on an activity that is making a difference in the lives of our neighbors. We invite Rockland non-profits, individuals and businesses to contribute to the Community Cares blog by sending an email to .

As the umbrella charitable organization for the county, the Rockland Community Foundation is working to connect donors with the causes they care about most. Our grants support a wide range of interests and, with the support of Rockland residents and businesses, we are committed to a path of growth that will enable us to help the non-profit community continue their vital work.
