Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to inform the first BOR and IPL-GPC meetings following the First World Landslide Forum 2008 was successful. 20 new IPL projects were orally proposed by ICL members and all were approved by the IPL Global Promotion Committee.

Claudio Margottini (ISPARA) was nominated to be the chairperson of WLF-II organizing committee and also a Vice President of ICL. New committeesof ICL Schools Network for Capacity Development, IPL WEB and Information Dissemination Committee and IPL-WCOE Network Committee including the evaluation subcommittee were established.

We will organize the 9th Session of BOR/ICL,5thSession of IPL-GPC, the 2010 IPL symposium as well as the 2010 Steering Committee meeting at the UNESCO Headquarters, Paris as below.

16 November (Tuesday): 14:00-17:30 Meeting of the Steering Committee (Room XIII)

17 November (Wednesday): 9:00 - 18:00 2010 IPL Symposium

1)All proposals of new IPL projects are invited to have an oral presentation. Those will be evaluated by the evaluation committee and examined in the 5th IPL-GPC on 19 November 2010.

2)Candidates of new WCoEs will be invited to have an oral presentation for preliminary evaluation.

3)Activity reports and results of ongoing IPL projects and ongoing WCoEs will be invited to haveoral presentation in this symposium. The number of oral presentation may be limited due to time. Those who are willing to have oral presentation are requested to send the title and the category in this reply form.

18 November (Thursday): 9:00-18:00 Committee meetings at Room XIII and XIV

9th Session of BOR of ICL ( 9:00-12:00)

5th Session of IPL-GPC (14:00-17:00)

All BOR members of ICL, all members of IPL-GPC are invited to attend those meetings.

1. BOR members of ICL may apply for the travel support when it is necessary. Please fill and return to the attached Reply Form by 1 May 2010. The Steering Committee meeting of ICL to prepare the WLF-II in 2011 and 9th BOR and 5th IPL-GPC will be held on 17-19May 2010 at FAO headquarters, Rome, Italy.
2. Those who need visa to enter into France, please write the necessity of invitation for VISA. Invitation will be issued from UNESCO.VISA will be often very much delayed for some persons. Earlier application will be recommended.
3. Those who will submit new IPL projects and new WCoEs and also willing to present activity reports in IPL Symposium are requested to fill and return the attached Reply Form.

I hope we will meet again at the UNESCO Headquarter in Paris and obtain fruitful results for the development of ICL and IPL.
