Four Scenarios:

Ask the relevant questions of your employers to help you plan and prepare for this work..

1.  EARLY YEARS

There is 12 months activity funding, in a new children’s centre, in a small town, working with existing staff, for one morning a week.

Aim: To engage under 5’s in music-making. To encourage their parents and teachers to play/sing with them outside the delivered sessions.

2.  SONGWRITING PROJECT

A youth club where approximately 40 young people come to ‘hang out’ and do activities 4 nights a week. There is a theme of Human Rights to the project and a performance in 6 weeks.

Aim: To get young people involved. To investigate some issues and create a confidence building, performance experience.

3.  PRIMARY SCHOOL SINGING

A 250 / one class entry school, in a city centre, where the music co-ordinator left 2 years ago. Some teachers sing. There is approx £1000 for a terms work.

Aim: Training and confidence building for the staff team.

4.  INTEGRATION PROJECT

A school for young people, aged 8 – 15 who have complex disabilities is working with a local secondary school. Music is the link and sessions happen weekly over a 2 terms.

Aim: to make links and increase understanding. For everyone to learn and progress.

More Music is a community music company created by Peter Moser which has gained a national reputation for innovative and powerful work, ranging from long term development projects in local communities to extraordinary performances of new commissioned work.

1983 – 1990 – Musical director for Welfare State International

Starting work as a technician and stage manager and progressing to MD and key collaborator for this international arts company. This culminated with an acclaimed 3 year music residency in Barrow which kick started the arts regeneration of this post industrial town.

1993 – 2005 – Collaboration with poet and playwright Adrian Mitchell

A long collaboration has led to music theatre, film and touring projects in the UK and abroad

CONSULTANCY and EDUCATION

Peter Moser has been involved in the community arts and theatre world within the UK for 25 years and has enormous experience of devising and creating new projects with diverse communities. He is a member of the Learning and Participation Sub-Committee at the Sage Gateshead, a Governor of Beaumont College, Lancaster and was a member of the Artist Think Tank for the Year of the Artist. He is also frequently asked to speak at ACE events and conferences. As an educator he has developed an international reputation for training musicians both creatively and as workshop leaders. This has included residential weekends, one off days and the recent creation of Community Music: A Handbook.

Experienced trainer of teachers and musicians in the delivery of practical classroom music activities for Manchester, Halton, Calderdale, Cheshire, Rochdale and Leeds education authorities incorporating practical creative INSET sessions, residential training and individual teacher support in the classroom and at performance. (2003-08)

Researcher for a Creative Partnerships action research project in effective CPD practice in association with Manchester Camerata and Manchester Arts education Initiative. (2005-06)

Co-ordinator for Greater Manchester Music Action Zone and Northwest Pathfinder working with schools in Manchester and Salford. Facilitated developed and delivered a practical inclusive and relevant music curriculum at year 6 and 7 with teachers music services and community musicians. (2007-09)

Co director of the Withington Girls’ School Summer Music course. A week of varied musical activities for 140 young people of all abilities aged 8-18. (2004-08)
