Minutes for CR Meeting
3rdDecember 2014, 7.30pm

Count:

34 people (there is a quorum).

Minutes:

The minutes from the last meeting were accepted as accurate.

Updates:

Social Sec:

Anna: social reps have completed their terms. CR party this Friday: Christmas theme. There will be a CR tree to decorate.

Sports:

No updates. Rugby tickets are now available. Skiing varsity tickets are no longer available.

Green:

Rachel: we had pub a quiz - close call - good turn out! There will be more green stuff coming up. If you want a waste bin please contact me. There is an Allotment Society meeting on Sunday.

Linacre Lines and Fellows:

Becky: Think of subject mixers! I can help you with it until my position ends. Potential upcoming events include: ice-skating, museum, etc. Linacre Lines - a lot is happening!

Charities:

Salaam: Accounts review (Jan 2013 - now): £5400 (compared to £3700 in the previous year). Revenue has doubled from last year thanks to the social secretaries, film society etc. Account is closing now. Good luck to the new rep!

Peter Holmes asks: Charity auction - when do we hear from those who made offers? Salaam: buyers have been notified and they will contact the sellers.

Green Student Updates:

Behavioural change: pop quiz, 5 teams totalling approximately 20 people, with fair trade prizes, which resulted in a tie breaker, and it was exciting! Look out for a poster campaign about energy usage etc. Let me remind you that a lot of people are here for only one year so there will be repetition. There will be an inter-house competition, but we are awaiting stats from the college on this.

Geoff: 2 projects: (1) Transition of Linacre gas from a conglomerate to a green fund; (2) We are gathering electric and water usage data in order to apply a carbon reduction strategy.

Non-Elective Representatives:

Philly: Non-elected reps: Punt Admiral: Ben Eacott; Food Rep: BoipeloTshwene-Mauchaza; LGBTQ Rep: Thomas Samuels; Bike Rep: Max Heikenfeld; International Rep: Madhav Kumar; Art Co-ordinator: Mike Barnkob.

Forming of Linacre Touch Rugby Club:

There have been advertisements about touch rugby over the past few weeks. Linacre will join Worcester's men's team. It's for beginners. Three sessions have been held up to date. There are 20-24 Linacrites on the mailing list, including people from other colleges. Teddy Hall fellow is helping us run the sessions, etc. It's very popular. This Sunday at 1pm - mixed sex, we want to become a formal society. We are asking for £250. We need £40 for league entry fees; £160 for use of astral turf pitch at the University Club (£20/hour).

Possibility of a Disability Rep vs. Inclusion:

Philly: Perhaps we could incorporate the disability rep into the welfare officer's role? Katherine is in charge of regulating the no-bias aspect of the position, but do we want to have a more active role? I might take over this next term.

Aiden: welfare role is preferred! I believe we should merge the positions!

Becky: It is better to merge it because of issues related to disclosure.

Salaam: I agree.

Philly: I will get back to you about this next term. Let me know about further issues or concerns regarding this topic.

Forming of Jiu-Jitsu Society:

Symon offered some compelling reasons for starting a BJJ society and requested no funding at this time. Gunesh displayed aloof paranoia, suggesting that a request for no funding was in fact motivated by an ulterior motive to subsequently request funding (?) Peter Holmes wondered if he could use his gi in Canada and Symon questioned the practicality of this long-distance arrangement. Peter then voiced concern about the members of the club - would it be populated with para-military thugs or decent sport enthusiasts? Symon attempted to assuage the concerns of all parties and Philly suggested that these issues would be better addressed in one-on-one meetings.

Photography Society Motion:

Salaam: We would like to modify the current budget, increasing it to £819, £419 of which would allow for SD card, lenses, and flash. Part of the funding would be used for two sessions in a studio with an instructor. Most of the funds are for capital investment that will remain in the cr next year, however, the framing, printing, and class expenses are merely expenses. Now we have a considerable surplus. Amy is looking after the equipment. If you need the equipment for a party etc., just contact us. How many people use it? This year until now: 7-10 people. Check the website. As a result of the extra equipment now, we feel it will be used more.

Question about insurance. Salaam: There is £100 limit on insurance, cameras are very durable, and people are responsible.

Rachel: has the photo society trained anyone to use the camera? Salaam: We do have 2 studio sessions in our budget;

Question about Instagram. Salaam: Without a larger a kit than we have, it's tricky but when we have more equipment it will be easier.

Pilly: Perhaps we could store it somewhere safely in the college? Salaam: We can apply the system of the sewing machine to the photography equipment. It is essential that we ensure it is safe and monitored because it is expensive.

Peter Holmes: What gets axed from the current budget? Philly: We don't axe anything - its all merely (re-)allocated. Salaam: Equipment will be purchased right away.

The motion was passed.

Forming of Linacre Swimming Club:

Vivek: I like to swim a lot and I am looking for a casual swimming club for Linacre. There are quite a few people interested in doing it on a casual basis. I am not asking for any money because although there is an interest, we are intending to be non-casual. Maybe in the future if members want to do something more and be more formal, we will ask for money. Other colleges have friendly events, and we could join in! Winter might be slower.

Ben Eacott: Do other colleges have this? Vivek: Worcester and other colleges like Balliol have it. Ben: Does it really need a society? Vivek: A society allows things to become more "stream-lined", and we anticipate it getting bigger.

Election Results:

Philly: Thanks to outgoing execs!!! The new Cr execs are: Social Secretaries: Vivek Kothari, AbdossalamMadkhali, Qifeng Yang; Welfare and Equalities Secretary: Caitlin O'Donnel; Environmental Officer: Louis Spanias; Events Manager: Janaki Shanmugam; OUSU Representative: Jill Boggs; Sports and Recreation Secretary: James Somerville; Development and Charities Officer: Dominique Tunzi; Linacre May Ball President: Victoria Roeck. Congratulations to everyone!!! Please get in touch with the appropriate person if you have any questions.

Question about elections: What about positions that weren't filled? Philly: I'm checking the bylaws but there is a student who is interested to stand in on the ball position, and then we will vote next term. The ball secretary is unfilled for now! We will see how this develops.
