CRS

  • Both the R1 and R2need to provide a thumb drive or tablet to the replay technicianprior to every CRS match. Line Judges and Observers are welcome to provide their devices for a match download, challenges and any Play of Interest.
  • Play of Interest (POI)

I had a call with Kim Jackson and he will emphasis to his replay technicians the steps needed to save POIs on your thumb drive or tablet. Ask your technician if they can save POIs.

NEW!If you feel that there was an Play of Interest, perhaps one that you want to review later (or have me review), turn to the technician and give him/her a thumbs up. (Pre-match that you will indicate with a thumbs up.)

The list of POIs are:

Illegal block (BRB) - POI • Net Fault • Individual Sanction – warning (IYC) – POI • Individual Sanction – penalty (IRC) – POI • Individual Sanction-disqualification (DQ) – POI • Team Sanction-warning (TYC) – POI • Team Sanction-penalty (TRC) - POI • Overlap (OL) - POI • Illegal Reach Over Net (RON) - POI • Catch/Throw • Illegal Attack – libero (LIB) – POI • Illegal Attack-back row (BRA) - POI • Double Contact • Center Line (CL)

  • CRS/DVSport Common Language
  • Kim Jackson is receptive to teaching his replay technicians a more consistent volleyball language for the four challenges, outcomes and for a Play of Interest.
  • Please use the following “outcome” terms when speaking to the technician, coaches and in your reports:

Confirmed (you found video evidence during the review to back-up the original decision.

Reversed (you found irrefutable evidence to overturn the original decision.

Inconclusive: (either the camera angles were not sufficient/convincing to confirm or reverse the original call.

(Replay is used to signal the R1 after it is decided that the original call is reversed.)

Examples:

*The ball was called in (or out). It is challenged, but the cameras on that play did not have the end line

in view.

*You call a net fault. You cannot find evidence to support or deny the net fault – the play stands;

therefore, the original decision is “inconclusive.” If you see that there was no net fault, then

you would have a “reversed” decision.

Use the bolded terms above only. Refrain from using Play Stands or Play is Overturned.

  • NC’s 8/31 Message on Central Hub - CRS Technique Reminder
  • Data Submission
  • I send out a weekly reminder to the R2s to submit their data on the Pac-12 form to me. I provide an “example” at the top of the Pac-12 form to help you with the correct language/order.
  • Please read the email carefully and pay attention to the “example” provided on the Pac-12 form. It is imperative that you indicate what was called (original decision) and what the review showed (outcome).

(If you submit “ball called out – reversed”– we cannot decipher whether the review showed that the ball

was in or touched – so please be specific, as shown in the example on the form.)

  • It is my goal to get the weekly CRS results to the coaches every Thursday.
  • Week 1 was sent out on time, but there was a question from a coach about the accuracy of a couple of challenges, so I did not send Week 1 results to you all yet. I will send Week 1 & 2 at the same time.

Post-Match Debrief Session

  • R1 leads, asks R2 if there is anything regarding scoring issues. After discussion, allow the scorers to leave the locker room. They may stay if they wish. R1 continues discussion with the Line Judges, followed up with R1/R2 discussion. The observers realize that much has already been discussed during intermission. The Observer follows up with comments/questions, but intercede during discussion of a play.
  • Refrain from lengthy discussions by continually repeating comments. According to the handbook, the debrief is supposed to last 15 minutes! Let’s be cognizant of the event staff/security outside our door waiting patiently.
  • This is a learning session, but be succinct.

Observers

  • If CRS is in use, introduce yourself to the replay technician. Encourage the use of POIs’ do not overwhelm the technician, however. During intermission, an observer can ask the technician to cue up a desired play if you provide the score and the set number. You can ask to save it as a POI.
  • Observers do not go into the locker room during the pre-match briefing, nor during intermission.
  • Observers do not get involved in CRS situations. If you sit next to the technician, make sure you are not in a LJ seat (designated for the LJs between sets. Be aware of your facial expressions or physical reactions during reviews, especially during televised matches.
