Policy - Lifelong Learning, Galway Campus.

  1. Programmes/ Modules/ Courses offered:

Accredited Programmes/ Modulesare offered on a part-time basis and areidentified by the School(s). Lifelong Learningundertakes generic marketingof the programmes and gathersvalid applications. Delivery of the Programmes/Modules(including ACCS, RPL and Assessment). This is undertaken by the School(s)in question who have academic control and are points of contact for each Programmes/ Module. If new Non-Accredited Courses are needed, proposals will be invited through an advertisement in a local paper. The proposals will then be evaluatedby GMIT against Quality of the Proposal (50%) and Qualifications & Experience (50%).

  1. Pricing of Programmes/ Modules/ Courses

Programmes, Modules and Courses are offered at fees which meet criteria set down by the Finance Dept. of GMIT. Accredited Programmes/Module fees shall be approved by the Governing Body. A run/cancel decision is made on the basis of viability criteria.

  1. Offers of places on Programmes/ Modules Courses

Places on accredited Programmes/ Modulesare offered following an assessment by the School(s) of valid applications against eligibility criteria. Places on non-accredited Courses are offeredon a first-come first-served basis to those who have completed valid application forms.

  1. Concession Fees & Refunds

If Programme/Module/ Course is cancelled, or a learner withdraws from a programme before the commencement date, a refund of 100% of the fee is issued if a Withdrawal Form has been received before the commencement date. Thereafterthere are no refunds, unless in special circumstances a refund is authorised by the Lifelong LearningCo-ordinator.

A minimum of one half-fee place is reserved (on a first-come, first-served, valid application basis) on all courses where fees are payable to GMIT for those in receipt of any current welfare payment or who are aged 60 or over or who are a full-time student in GMIT. If all of the places on a course have not been taken up on the date of commencement, further half-fee places will be made available up to the maximum class size.

Applications by GMIT Staff for places must be accompanied by fee payment details, unless there is written agreement by a Head of School/ Registrar to fund their place.

  1. Certificates of Completion.

For Courses, learners who have a minimum attendance of 70% of classes will be provided with a Certificate of Completion upon request.

  1. Third Party payment of fees

If a third-party (e.g. FAS) give conditional agreement to pay a portion of the fees for a course, the student must provide a credit/ laser card to the full value of the course. Payment of the portions of fee not covered by the third-party will be charged to that card before the course starts. If the third-party refuses to pay because of any action of the student, the card provided by the student will then be charged the remainder of the fee.
