Dear Families,

What another great week we’ve had! This week we wrapped up our “We’re Terrific” unit which focused on feelings and self-esteem and began a unit on Predictable Patterns. We read books that had a familiar pattern on each page that the students could join in on. We read Who Stole the Cookie? and The Jacket I Wear in the Snow. In phonics, we have been working on rhyming words. This is a great skill to practice at home or in the car! In math, we’ve begun a unit on examining patterns. We are learning how to create them and also label them. We have been continuing our unit on rules in Social Studies. Please make sure your child can tell you about our school rules!

Grades: At conferences, I sent home a note regarding grading in our classroom. At this point in the year, your child will rarely receive a 4 because 4s are reserved for when a child has mastered a concept. Please make sure to review your child’s grades on papers.

Behavior: Each day your child starts the day off on a green card. Yellow is a warning. Blue is a loss of 5 minutes of recess. Orange is a loss of 10 minutes of recess. And red is reserved for days I hope we’ll never have!  Please talk with your child each night about their behavior at school and let’s keep staying on green!

Homework: This week we are sending home our blue homework check-offs for the week. Please review these closely as we are expecting the class to work on math and reading each night. These will be due each Friday at school. The weekly math worksheets will be due each Tuesday.

Birthday Invitations: Please only send birthday invitations in to school if EVERY child is invited! We wouldn’t want to have hurt feelings. Thanks!

Class Website: I am posting each week’s newsletter on our class website. Head to Lebanon’s Home page, then choose Our Schools, then Bowman, then choose Jones, Lyndi, then hit the Jones Journal, then hit downloads, and this is where they will be!

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns! I know the first few weeks are always a bit overwhelming for first graders, but I’m very proud of them!

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Lyndi Jones
