The Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management (ILTM) at Bucknell provides a unique opportunity for selected engineering, management/accounting, and liberal arts students who have completed their sophomore year. The Institute integrates engineering and management education and, with perspectives from the humanities and social sciences, exposes students to the complex, multi-faceted problems facing technology-based organizations today.

ILTM an intensive, six-week on-campus program that places heavy emphasis on critical thinking, teamwork and integrative decision-making in the context of “real-world” organizational issues. Comprised of lectures, case studies, discussions, field trips, and interdisciplinary team projects developed and guided by executives from selected corporations, this summer session addresses strategic management, economics, corporate finance, marketing, organizational behavior, engineering and technology development, global competition, personal and professional ethics, leadership, and communication.

The 2014 ILTM will be held June 8-July 18. ILTM students willreceive a $2000 stipend and free housing in the Gateways but no academic credit. University meal plans are available but not required.

Students are expected to participate in a challenging summer internship after their junior year, i.e., nearly one year after they complete the summer program. The internships, identified and obtained by ILTM students with assistance from the Career Development Center, ideally provide exposure to both technology and management issues, processes and operations. The amount of internship payment received by the student is negotiated by the student and the employer.

Admission into the Institute is by application only, which can be found on the ILTM website (go to and click on “Apply”). All Bucknell sophomores are eligible to apply. Admission decisions will be based on an applicant’s GPA and the quality of his or her application essays. Comments by the applicant’s faculty references and of former ILTM students based on interviewsmay also be considered. It is expected the class will consist of approximately ten management/accounting students, tenengineering students, andfour liberal arts students.

Completed applications must be emailed to by 7 PM on January 6, 2014. Admission decisions will be completed and announced by January 25, 2014.

This year, ILTM will again have an Early Application option, which is intended for students who must know whether they are accepted before January 25. Students who submit their applications by 6:00 AM on December 18 should receive their acceptance decision by December 23. It is expected that the acceptance criteria for this round of acceptances will be more rigorous than for the regular admissions process. It is possible that some early decision applicants will be notified that their acceptance decisions must be postponed until after normal applications are received on January 6.

Applicants who pass the initial round of faculty review are expected to make themselves available to be interviewed by former ILTM students at a mutually convenient time. These interviews will occur January 14-19 for regular applicants.
