The Craft Shop, based in the Great Hall at the Royal Exchange Theatre, exhibits and sells a wide range of British handmade contemporary crafts. As part of the Truth about Youth Festival in July 2012, we are looking for FUTURE MAKERS – young people who create exciting crafts and who would like to exhibit and sell their work to the public. Your work will be displayed in the Great Hall at the Royal Exchange, and will be on sale for the duration of the 2 week Festival.

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 14 – 19 from across Greater Manchester. You can apply as an individual, or as part of a group. We are looking to find work that is original, creative and interesting, and for pieces that have been created by young people using their own ideas.

What is the application process?

You will need to complete a simple form, giving us a bit more information about the kind of arts/crafts that you create – applications can be supported by additional materials (e.g. photographs). The deadline is Friday 20 April. All applications will be considered by our panel of Truth about Youth Young Leaders and the Craft Shop team, and shortlisted applicants will be invited to bring some examples of their work and come into the Theatre for a chat on Saturday 26 May. If selected, you will then have the opportunity to further develop your pieces, and your finished work will need to be submitted bySaturday 30 June.

If my application is successful, what support will the Royal Exchange give me?

All successful applicants will get...

  • The opportunity to exhibit and sell your work – crafts will be on sale in the Craft Shop for the duration of the 2 week Festival
