Word dissection (15 minutes)
Complete story sentences for the word parts below. Follow the example format.

Personal Letter (20 minutes)
Complete a rough draft of a personal letter. Your letter should be a minimum of 150 words. Your letter should include a salutation (“Dear [name],”), a body, and a closing (“Sincerely,”).
The person you are writing to is one of your parents or guardians.
Essay (45 minutes)
Pick a different one of the six essays we completed outlines for and write a rough draft.
The essay topics to choose from are:
- Evaluate a restaurant.
- Describe a perfect day.
- Instruct someone on how to be a good parent.
- Convince am employer they should hire you for a job.
- Compare and contrast two restaurants.
- Tell the story of a time when you or someone you know of did something nice for another person.
Your essay should have a fully developed introduction and conclusion (at least 3 sentences), good topic sentences, and body paragraphs with details and comments like we have been working on.
Your essay should be 300-500 words.
Journal (7 minutes)
Complete a journal in class. Number and date it like you normally would. If you are caught up (and not ahead), this will be journal number 8.
Aesop’s Fables (55 minutes)
Read the five Aesop’s fables.
For each story, pick two words you do not know and define them.
For each story, write one sentence describing the theme (lesson you think the author wants people to learn).
Pick ONE story and complete the first four steps of the “Life Connection Template” for it.
Extra work
If you complete all of the assignments, complete any makeup work you need. Once you are caught up, you may complete any extra work for B or A credit.
Extra work ideas: Write two or more letters; complete more than one journal; complete two essays instead of one.
