What will the test be like? (100 questions.)

The entire test is objective (multiple choice, true/false, matching).

  • There will be5questions onMLA format.
  • The exam will have 23 questions about thecharacters and events ofFahrenheit 451, and 11 questions about two short passages from the novel. You need to know the whole book.
  • Characters: Guy Montag, Mildred, Clarisse, Beatty, Faber, the Hound, the old woman
  • The exam will mostly require you to read and answer questions about new selections. (They may be fiction, nonfiction, drama and/or poetry). Although you cannot study for the new readings, you will use skills that you developed all year. You won’t need to answer questions about the definitions of literary terms, but you will need to answer questions about the use of literary terms; for example, I might ask you about hyperbole or alliteration, theme or use of facts in a new reading.
  • Occasionally, a question will ask you to connect a character from one of our books to a new reading. You need to be able to use the following names for this purpose.
  • To Kill a Mockingbird: Atticus, Jem, Scout, Bob Ewell, Mayella Ewell, Boo Radley
  • The Catcher in the Rye: Holden

Where do I find this stuff?

In your own class notes, of course. Literary term definitions also are available online.

Any other helpful hints?

Why, yes. Remember to get a good night’s rest and eat breakfast. You will need to complete more than a question a minute and read quite a bit of new material. If you are tired or hungry, you won’t be able to maintain your pace.
