Learning Goal: TSW be able to discuss how the Anglo Saxon epic Beowulf impacted British literature

Activating Strategy: Students will review the Anglo Saxon PowerPoint to gain an understanding of this time period in Britain’s history.

Teaching Strategies:

-In teams, determine how the epic characteristics are evident in the Beowulf chapters of the narrative (chapters 4-5).

-Use the Popplet created last week for the Epic station or the handout attached (Traits of an Epic) to prove how points c, e, f and j are used in the poem.

-By next class meeting, read The Battle with Grendel (chapters 8-9).

Summarizing Strategy: As a team give an example how Beowulf fits the Anglo Saxon warrior code. Use information from the PowerPoint activator to get your answer.
