Role Summary:
As a member of the Student Voice team, to work with elected officers to deliver effective student representation to influence Keele University policy and practice, as well as local, regional and national policy, on matters of relevance and interest to our members. Deliver effective elections.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Voice
  1. To promote support and enablean effective and impactful student representation scheme at all levels of the University, within Keele SU and externally, including on matters of national HE policy
  2. To facilitate effective democratic elections to recruit the elected officers and representatives for the variety of opportunities available as per policy.
  3. To promote UGM/EGM/AGM and other such forums.
  4. To undertake effective administration of the democratic policy-making forums and processes of Keele SU, including minute taking and administering UGM/EGM/AGM and other such forums.
  5. Supporting effective delivery of student-led policy mandates and ensure effective records of policies and minutes are maintained and promoted, including aiding effective systems of scrutiny and accountability of Officers’ performance
  6. To promote and grow engagement with Keele SU’s student voice functions and opportunities, particularly elections and policy-making forums
  7. To promote effective engagement with national policy debate and decisions, including specifically with and through the National Union of Students.
  8. To contribute to the effective training of and support for elected officers, so they may be enabled to succeed in their roles
  9. To ensure the preparation and delivery of a regular student voice report to influence both Keele SU and Keele University’s policies and practices based on professionally presented evidence
  10. In conjunction with the Head of Student Voice and Advocacy and elected officers, to continually review the Constitution and Bye laws.
  11. Support officers with policy and manifesto actions, including campaign planning and delivery.
  12. To use social media to effectively promote effective student representation, where appropriate.
  13. To elect, train, support and recognise academic representatives. Support, promote and administer an effective and impactful course-level representation scheme.
  14. Develop and maintain effective partnerships with key stakeholders in a designated faculty.
Elections administration
  1. To serve as the elections organiser and work with the Student Voice Manager / Deputy Returning Officer for all Executive and representative elections.
  2. To work with the Head of Student Voice and Advocacy to recruit the support of, anddivide the responsibilities of elections between,the broader SU staff and Officer team.
  3. To recruit for all elected student positions and to support them through on-going training and mentoring.
  4. To work effectively with Executive Officers, relevant University staff and others to ensure the success of course representative elections.
  5. To liaise with other relevant departments to effectively promote elections participation.
  6. To work with the Head of Student Voice and Advocacy to develop and promote effective accountability mechanisms to promote transparency and democratic responsibility as per policy requirements.
Reports, Surveys and Research
  1. To work on a day-to-day basis with the elected officers to enable achievement of Officers’ aims in relation to democracy and representation.
  2. To organise and/or contribute to surveys, focus groups and other research activities to assess student opinion on relevant issues. Support Union surveys and the National Student Survey.
  3. To support the promotion of any Union surveys and relevant National Student Surveys.
  4. To investigate quality assurance and enhancement issues in higher education and brief officers and staff.
  5. Conduct any appropriate research to further inform the student representative decision making processes.
  6. To contribute to reviews and evaluation of the effectiveness of student representatives.
  7. To maintain an up to date knowledge of national policy matters of interest to our broader membership, and to advise Officers and SLT accordingly.
Other Duties
  1. To contribute to the positive image of KeeleSU with students, the University and the local community.
  2. To abide by KeeleSU Constitution, policies and procedures at all times.
  3. To undertake other tasks and responsibilities, compatible with the level and nature of the post, as required by the Trustees from time to time.
  4. To attend appropriate meetings as and when required.
  5. To uphold and adhere to Keele SU health and safety policy and best practice.
KeeleSU considers regular and ongoing training as essential to job satisfaction and career development. The post-holder will be offered the opportunity to participate in training that is relevant to their duties and the post-holder will be expected to undertake such training as may be reasonably practicable.
Notes
For full and effective discharge of duties, the post will, at times, require additional commitment over and above normal office hours. The post-holder is expected, within reason, to undertake such hours as are necessary to successfully perform the duties of the post.
