Utilities & Home/Renters Insurance

NOTES

1.  What are utilities?

a.  Utilities are a company that performs a public service; subject to government regulation

b.  They include electricity, natural gas, water/sewage, telephone, Internet, cable/satellite TV, and trash collection

c.  Some people use and/or want “everything.” Some people save money by “doing without.”

d.  You have to make this decision based upon your monthly budget.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT:

1.  You need to find the total cost of utilities for your home or apartment and add them to your budget. If you have an apartment and some of your utilities are included in the price of your monthly rent, you need to indicate this on your budget!

2.  Open the budget that you have created in Microsoft Excel. You must find and include everything that is listed below. Also, consider activation or “one-time only” equipment fees.

3.  Print screen a copy of your estimates or where you found the cost of each of the utilities that are listed. (You should have at least 2 printouts, and maybe more)

·  The following websites are calculators, resources, or suggestions that might help you

i.  Electricity - use this website to calculate your monthly bill. Be sure to include the furnace as well…take the estimated cost on the bottom of the page. Please do a print screen of your bottom costs here:
