Dear Heavenly Father,

As we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, we think of how they have followed in the footsteps of your son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Please hold our service men and women in your strong arms. Cover them with your sheltering grace and presence as they stand in the gap for our protection.

We also remember the families of our troops, and ask for your unique blessings to fill their homes and your peace, provision and strength to fill their lives.

May the members of our armed forces be filled with courage to face each day and may they trust in the Lord's mighty power to accomplish each task. Let our military brothers and sisters feel our love and support.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

A Multilingual Celebration of Pentecost

To do so, we need the help of any parishioners who speak a language other than English, either in helping to compose our prayers in that language or by presenting these intentions at Mass. If you speak a language other than English and would like to be involved in this effort, please contact Colleen in the office or e-mail her at . Merci. Gracias. Vielen dank. Obrigado. Dank u. Youth Formation Ministry

WHITE WATER RAFTING

Plans are underway for this summer’s White Water Rafting trip in Maine. This annual favorite will take place on the weekend of June 27 and 28. The cost of this year’s trip is $90. Contact the Youth Office to reserve your spot.

MATTHEW 25

Students are invited to join us for this year’s Matthew 25 Program, which will take place immediately following Vacation Bible School, July 20 through 24. Last summer the YFM group assisted many parishioners around Norwood. We will again be planning to do similar work in the parish community. Students wishing to join us should sign up by contacting the YFM Office. Seniors who have minor repair projects and painting should contact Frank Connell or Margaret Hayes to reserve a crew for the summer.

GOSPEL ROAD

For this summer, we are bringing back, and revitalizing a very unique weeklong service program known as Gospel Road. The project will run from Sunday evening, July 26 until Friday afternoon, July 31. This program had great popularity in the Archdiocese years ago and was very popular at St. Timothy’s and St. Catherine’s as well. I am looking for both students and parents who would be interested in assisting with any one of the many aspects of this program. Please contact the YFM Office at 617-792-3433. With the economy still very unstable, and families having to tighten budgets, this is the YFM’s alternative to an out-of-state service trip.

Pine Street Inn

On Tuesday, June 9, we will be preparing and serving supper for the men at Holy Family Shelter. Desserts are welcomed! Please call for drop off address (Dot at 781-769-0652).

Introducing Parish Council Nominees

Elaine (Bunny) Balabanis: I have been a member of the parish since my husband and three children moved to Walpole in 1973. I have been involved in several ministries and activities; taught religious education; Eucharistic Minister for 5 years; monthly book club; sing in the adult choir; serving suppers to the homeless at Pine Street Inn. It would be a privilege for me to serve on the Council. I would dedicate myself to doing the very best that I can for our Parish.

Monica Stevenson:For the past six years I have taught first and second grade CCD classes at Saint Timothy's. This year I became a lector. The parish is a very important part of my life and my family's. We all truly enjoy being a part of such a wonderful community. I would enjoy the opportunity to be on the Parish Council and look at what makes Saint Timothy's such a special parish and how we can improve it even more.

Judy Dugan: I have been a member of St. Timothy Parish since the mid 70's. I’ve taught CCD from First Eucharist through to Confirmation, was a Lector for five plus years and sang in the choirs. Currently I am a Breadbaker for the 9:30 Mass, a member of the Funeral Ministry and a team member in writing the Prayers of the Faithful for the Sunday Liturgy. I am also involved in a Bible Study group. I would like to be a member of the Parish Council, lending my voice and experience in representing the people of St. Tim's in dealing with the many changes and challenges that we facetoday.

Bill Butler: To be involved in planning for the future of St Timothy’s would be an honor. The wonderful feeling of community is strong no matter what I am doing. Whether it is in New Orleans participating with the Social Outreach program, helping out on Special Needs day, or simply sharing coffee after Mass on Sunday, the feeling strengthens me and makes me want to be more involved. I would very much like to be a part of the Parish Council moving St Timothy’s forward.

Ann Zawistowski: I have been a member of St. Timothy’s parish since it began in 1963. I am the mother of 5 grown children. In the past, I have taught CCD, been active in the Women’s Sodality, which became the Women’s Guild. Also, for many years, I have been serving as a lector at the 4:30 Mass on Saturday. Now that my children are grown, I feel that I can contribute to the vibrant life of St. Timothy’s Parish in another way, by serving on the parish council.

Ann Wakely: I have been a member of St. Timothy Parish for the past 13years.I am currently very active in the health ministry. I visit a nursing home once a week to participate in the rosary group and also have the privilege of bringing the Holy Eucharist to the homebound. This past year I have been involved in the liturgical ministry. My focus would be to enrich the great spirit of St. Timothys as being a welcoming Christian Community.

Sue Petro: I am a co-leader (with my husband) of the Marriage Preparation ministry team and am a teacher in both the k-6 Religious Education program and the YFM program.
I am a part-time theology graduate student at Boston College. I'm running for a position on the Parish Council primarily because I love our St. Timothy's community. I would like to contribute my time and energy and ideas to the Parish Council both because I have received so much from St. Tim's and because I believe that I could help make parish life even stronger.

Dear friends—

In my experience, one of the less desirable aspects of being a pastor is the need to deal with finances. However, so much of what we do, or cannot do, is “money-based”.

Week to week we ask you to support the parish by means of the weekly collection. We have also asked you to support our parish Grand Annual, the Archdiocesan Catholic Appeal, and a number of other “special” collections during the course of the year. In spite of the difficult financial conditions so many find themselves in these days, you have been most supportive and generous. For all that help, I am most grateful.

I write to you today to ask for your help with another need—namely the retirement and health care needs of the priests of the Archdiocese of Boston. Currently there are 755 priests who rely on the Archdiocese for their health care. In addition, there are 275 senior priests who rely on the Archdiocese for their retirement needs.

Obviously as the number of older priests continues to increase, so does the cost of health and retirement care. The Clergy Fund—the entity that provides for these expenses—is seriously depleted. There are a number of reasons for this crisis.

Part of the reason was that we tried to manage these funds without professional help. Measures that could have been taken to do things more efficiently were not explored.

Regina Cleri—the retirement home for priests was built in the 1960’s-- needed many upgrades to bring it in compliance with current day building codes. The Clergy Fund lent many millions of dollars for those necessary upgrades. Priests who had been accused of abuse—but whose guilt or innocence had not been determined—were given their salaries and health benefits out of this fund.

The Archbishop has convened a group of priests and professionals to examine what are the best practices for this fund for the future. He has also hired a firm to look at how the funds were managed in the past and to give a full accounting of revenues and expenses. He has already put into place procedures that will save money in the future and utilize programs and benefits that priests are entitled to receive since most priests pay into Social Security.

Right now the major funding for the Clergy Fund comes from the proceeds of the Christmas and Easter collections that are taken up in each parish. The Cardinal has asked that each parish take up an additional collection to build up this fund. The collection is designated for the weekend of June 13 & 14. Envelopes for this collection will be available in the pews and at the exit to the church. Whatever assistance you can give will be deeply appreciated and used exclusively to help the active and retired priests with their health and retirement needs.

Please be aware that our parish council elections will be held next weekend, May 30/31. Please look over the biographies of the nominees in this week’s bulletin and then vote for the 5 candidates who you feel can well represent you as parish council members.

Finally, on this Memorial Day weekend, we remember all those who gave so much to keep our nation free. May God bless them for their sacrifices.
