ST. PIUS ATHLETIC CLUB

Athlete Code of Conduct

The St. Pius Athletic Club Code is a minimum guide for St. Pius athletes to follow. Individual coaches can set more stringent team policies and procedures with the support of the athletic director.

  1. Athletes are representatives of St. Pius Parish/School and are to conduct themselves in a manner that will make the Parish/School proud of them by regularly attending school, Mass (including weekends) and practice.
  1. Athletes are required by CYO to have a physical exam BEFORE participating in any practice or game. This exam must have been taken on or after April 15th of the current school/sport year and will be valid for all sports during the following school or athletic year.
  2. Athletes must maintain a scholastic “C” average (2.0 GPA) and must maintain a minimum “C” in citizenship. Grades are checked after interims and report cards. Athletes will not be allowed to participate in any sport after notification subject to review by the principal and teachers.
  3. Athletic fees must be paid on or before uniform distribution. Failure to pay will result in suspension of participation and uniform will not be given to athlete until fees are paid; or arrangements have been made to do so.
  4. Any display of unsportsmanlike conduct toward an opponent or official or use of profanity will result in disciplinary action by the head coach.
  5. Athletes must attend all practices or games. An excused absence is one that is accepted by the head coach. Failure to do so may result in limited playing time at the discretion of the head coach.
  6. Parental support is encouraged, but the coaches need to run practices and games with out parental interference/advice unless solicited by the head coach.
  7. A student must be in school in order to participate in any activity that day. An exception would be made if the student had an approved appointment with a note to the school and the head coach.
  8. Theft or malicious destruction of any school’s or individuals equipment or property will not be tolerated and will be dealt with disciplinary action and/or suspension from the team by the head coach or athletic director.
  9. Completion of the entire sports season in good standing is required in order for a student to be eligible for team or individual awards. Exception: An injury which limits participation. The entire sports season is defined as the CYO regular season; including any and all tournament participation and post season playoff participation by said athlete’s team.
  10. Equipment issued to an athlete is their responsibility. If they do not have all equipment and uniforms at the end of the season, it is the parent’s responsibility to reimburse the athletic department for such items.
  11. St. Pius Athletic program has a zero tolerance policy on the following; the use or possession of alcoholic beverages, tobacco drugs, or any other behavior altering substances by a student athlete. Failure to comply will result in immediate suspension from the athletic program for the remainder of the academic year.
  12. The “St. Pius Athletic Club Code” is subject to school/parish regulations; and the athlete may be subject to further discipline and regulations as the result of school/parish policies and procedures.
  1. Any athlete that withdraws from said team. After the two (2) week pre-season period and before the completion of the ENTIRE SPORTS SEASON (see definition, pt. 10), will be declared ineligible to participate in the next sports season. Certain extenuating circumstances will be considered and dealt with on an individual basis by the athletic department. (i.e. academic reasons, health/injury, parental decision due to academic reasons only)
  2. Understand and practice the ‘Pirate Way’

Any other circumstances not covered in the boundaries of the athletic code will be dealt with individually by the athletic department.

I have carefully read and understand the St. Pius Athletic Club Code of Conduct and agree to uphold all the policies and regulations contained within.
