AND ANY POSSIBLE PLAY OFF GAMES AS THE TEAM ADVANCES.

Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan on being here for some quality work. Remember that this camp as well as all performances and after school rehearsals are requirements for all Marching Band members. We want to get a lot accomplished during this camp so please practice your instruments some throughout the summer. We will put the entire show on the field during camp. I am hoping you are all looking forward to a great year. New students may want to go ahead and get a music lyre and flip folder before camp. These can be purchased at The Music Center in Statesville (across from the Signal Hill Mall).

Please take care of the following before arriving for the first rehearsal:

  1. Have a good flip folder (with at least 24 pages) to hold your marching music. You will need this daily.
  2. A lyre to hold your flip folder. Ask for one for your specific instrument. Percussion do not need one.
  3. Comfortable clothes (school appropriate dress) and sneakers/tennis shoes.
  4. Make sure your instrument is in working order.
  5. Sunscreen
  6. Bug spray
  7. Sunglasses (if needed)
  8. Plenty of water
  9. A bag lunch/supper and snacks for each day of marching camp.
  10. Pencils, hi-lighters, and a clip board.
  11. Sign all papers, handbooks, etc.… and bring first day of band camp.
  12. BAND DUES (includes band shirt and gloves)

This year’s show will be challenging as well as entertaining. Please be ready for some serious work at camp this year. OUR GOAL FOR CAMP IS TO HAVE THE SHOW LEARNED ON THE FIELD BY THE LAST DAY OF CAMP. Camp sets the foundation for success throughout the rest of the year. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me at school (704-528-4536) or (704-450-2775) or email me at

Musically yours, Jill Parker- Director of Bands

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE DATES AND REPORT TIMES MAY CHANGE. I WILL GIVE YOU ADVANCED NOTICE WHEN ANY SCHEDULE CHANGES ARE MADE. YOU WILL RECEIVE A FULL CALENDAR THE FIRST DAY OF BAND CAMP.

Parent Involvement Opportunities

Parents are an integral part of our band program. Our parents get to know each other well over the course of 4 years and work together to support our students. There are many ways to be involved—even for those parents whose child does not want you visible and for those who work full-time. Please review the following needs and see if there is one that will fit your schedule.

Concessions

The Band Boosters organization runs the visitor concession stand during home varsity football games. The sales from concessions fund most of our band needs every year. Parents volunteer for 3.5 to 4 hour shifts on game nights. In addition, 2 parents help with the 50/50 sale (approximately 1-hour commitment) and 2 help with assembling and serving the meal deals to our band members at half-time (approximately 1-hour commitment). Training by experienced band parents is provided as needed each game.

Our home games this year are August 24 (West Iredell), September 14 (Mooresville), September 21 (West Forsyth AND Middle School Band Night), October 12 (West Rowan), October 26 (North Iredell) and possible play-off games (TBA)

Concession volunteers arrive at 6:00 p.m. to help set up the stand, sell food during the game, and help clean up after the stand closes. Those who sign up to help will be contacted by the parents who head up the Concessions program. PLEASE USE OUR LINK TO SIGN UP

Snacks for Band Camp and Competitions

During camp we try to provide a snack each day. Additionally, our students consume a lot of water since we are outside on the field practicing. If you are interested in providing snacks (icees, crackers, chips, pretzels, etc.—all must be individually wrapped please) or bottled water, our students would appreciate it. We have approximately 120 students at camp and have room to store all donations. You may donate any amount (you do not need to donate 120!) PLEASE USE OUR LINK TO SIGN UP

Uniform Tailoring

We have had the great fortune of being able to purchase new uniforms in the past 2 years. We have them dry cleaned each spring so they are ready for students in the fall. Because students grow and our membership changes, we need to hem several pairs of band pants each year. We need help in pinning the pants and sewing them prior to our mid-fall games (students wear band t-shirts and shorts the first few events because of the heat.) PLEASE USE OUR LINK TO SIGN UP

Iredell County Fair Parking

For several years our organization has been given the opportunity to “man” a parking lot for the Iredell County Fair. We direct cars as to where to park and collect money. Melson’s Auto Parts Store (across from the fairgrounds) allows us to use their parking lot for this purpose. We have 2 adults and 2 – 4 students per shift. In addition to bringing in a substantial amount of funds, we have a lot of fun—some students bring their instruments and play, others dress up in Viking wear, and parents socialize. One of our band families coordinates this and will contact you about the details prior to the event. PLEASE USE OUR LINK TO SIGN UP

Competitions

Our students attend 2 or 3 marching competitions in the fall and parents help with props, snacks, and encouragement. The dates and locations for these events will be announced later. Please consider attending one to see some impressive shows by our area marching bands.
