President’s Message:

Looking for Help !

There has been some interest in placing boatlifts in our lake to provide more convenience for boat owners at Pelican Bay Resort. In order for the general membership to vote on this at the next General Meeting, they will need a lot of information so that an informed decision can be made.

We need someone to volunteer to gather information related to determining the viability and suitability of placing boatlifts in the lake in front of our property. The following will need to be done:

  • Assess who wants a boat lift
  • Assess where exactly they should go on the North and South sides
  • Talk to the people whose view of the lake from their lot will be affected
  • Develop standards on what they should be made out of and their appearance, size and height
  • Develop a plan for how people pay and deploy new lifts after the first deployment as more people request them
  • Develop a process that we will need to go through to get new people positioned with a lift
  • Develop and define a mainten- ance plan, removal plan and storage plan for the lifts and walk-out piers
  • Define a deployment plan for the springtime to place the equipment back into the water
  • Identify the overall “owner” of this activity ongoing

If you are interested in volunteering, please call Stuart Palace at 489-6720 or e-mail at .

If the general membership votes “for” boatlifts, any and ALL costs related to boatlifts will be paid for by the members that implement boatlifts NOT members that are not interested. Anyone that is in- terested in having a boatlift please either send an e-mail r call Wally and Jenny at 780 657-2220. Please indicateyour full name, lot number and number of lifts you would like to install.

Please be sure YOU DO NOT INSTALL a boatlift in front of Pelican Bay property until the general membership votes “for” boatlifts at the next general meeting. If the general membership votes “against” boatlifts, then we will not allow them. We realize we do not have jurisdiction over the lake, but we want to ensure that we do what’s in the best interests of the membership as a whole and we should all understand that. After all, this is the spirit of the park and the lake is a big part of the enjoyment of the park.

PARK REPORTS

A Message from Wally and Jenny

We would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and effort improving and maintaining the park this summer, and especially the following who were so generous with their time and effort:

Vic Kosturn for siding the well house. Fine job.

Terry Hamilton for his time and equipment to rototill the play area and volleyball court

Georgena Cholak and friends for painting the outhouse on the beach.

Austin Mayo who took down the overhead power cables.

Mark Cholak who did a lot of odd jobs for Wally and the park.

Everyone who helped with raking and cleaning the lake grass from the swimming area.

Everyone who just saw something and cleaned it up.

THANK YOU

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the shareholders in the park, I would like to thank all of the volunteers who have donated both their time and their efforts throughout the year for the betterment of our park. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated by everyone sharing the park and those potential shareholders viewing the park for the first time. We would like to extend a BIG thank you to the folks that pooled their efforts and equipment to till up the sand in the playground and horseshoe area. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!!! Thanks everyone and have a great winter. See you next spring.

Peggy Gulka

Speaking of volunteers, a big THANKS goes out to Terry and Eleanor Hamilton (and friend) for donating their time, equipment and fuel to roto-till the weeds and level the sand in the the playground, volleyball and beach fire pit areas. This has not only made the park more appealing, but a safer place for all. Removing the weeds around the fire pit has reduced the chance of grass fires, while providing a nice level surface to plant your lawn chair and enjoy the even-ing fire. Take time out of your day and enjoy a walk across the silky sand to thank them in person. They reside in the first lot (5th wheel trailer) at the south end of the beach(15B I think).

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

On June 9th we had we had a great turnout for our Annual General Meeting. It is very important that everyone try their best to attend since this is where most of the decisions are made and where you can voice your ideas or issues for all to hear. Next year and the years following, we will try to have them earlier; hopefully as early as April or early May. This way we can implement the things that are discussed for the upcoming season.

If you did not attend the AGM, you should receive all the handouts with this newsletter. If not, call Stuart Palace at 489-6720. Please read everything carefully. It is all valuable information that will help us run the park smoothly. We have also included the minutes of the AGM with the newsletter to save on postage. Sorry for the delay. In the future we will work hard to get everything out much quicker after the AGM.

SELLING / LEASING LOTS

Blair Curtis has been busy showing lots this season. Most of the interest from the public has been in leasing lots this season, one being a renewal and the other five are new. To generate demand for sales, the board has capped the leases at six. Existing leaser's have the first right to buy the lot they are on if someone else wants to buy it.

Bryan Fontaine and Blair have done a

review of the pricing of the remaining 33 lots. Their price will vary depending on size, location and other factors. A more realistic pricing approach and restricting the number of leases should help generate more revenue for the park.

We have sold one lot this year, leased six and have received transfer fees on two, but have not generated the revenues anticipated, and therefore have not proceeded with some of the planned capital expenditures. We anticipate moving ahead with some of the more pressing items next spring.

WATER FILTRATION

I was asked to submit somesuggestions for filtering water to the trailers on the north side. Some of us have branched off of the tap and added 2 filters going into the trailer. One is a carbon filter, for smell, and the other is a micro filter for particles and other bad stuff. Although this does not make it drinkable, it does help a lot with smell, stains and residue. Another couple of things that seem to help is to heat the hot water tank with gas and not electricity and to drain the tank when not in use. All parts including replacement filters can be purchased at Canadian Tire for less than $100. This will make life more pleasant as well as doing less damage to your trailer. Apart from drinking the water, installing these filters will solve the issues on the north side. If anyone wants to see the filters they can see mine at 8 North.
