VACANCY NOTIFICATION – Senior Visa Officer (Expat)

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection has a vacancy for aSenior Visa Officer(Expat)within the Immigration Section at the Australian High Commission, Dhaka.

Applicants must be a citizen of Australia, Britain, Canada, New Zealand or the United States temporarily residing in Bangladesh and eligible to work as a locally engaged staff member at a diplomatic mission in Bangladesh.(You may be asked to show evidence of your visa status.)

The successful applicant can negotiate their working hours: the position is part-time, however, full-time arrangements can also be considered according to workloads.

A merit based selection process will be undertaken to fill the vacancy. The selection criteria and duty statement for the vacancy are attached. Applicants should provide a concise (no more than 2 pages), typed statement in support of their claims against the selection criteria.

Senior Visa Officer (Expat)

DUTY STATEMENT

  • Assess visa applications for entry to Australia against legislation and policy guidelines.
  • Conduct interviews, provide advice and make decisions in a timely manner on applications for Australian visas.
  • Liaise with other overseas and Australian offices other stakeholders in order to provide a high standard of service to clients.
  • Respond to more complex public inquiries on all temporary entry, visitor and general migration matters.
  • Manage a caseload of work, in conjunction with team members, efficiently and effectively
  • Mentor locally engaged staff

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Sound ability to make recommendations, decisions and provide advice on visa applications in accordance with Australian Government legislation and policy. Capacity to absorb and interpret information about Australia’s immigration legislation, policy and procedures.
  2. High-level written and oral communication skills, including writing records of decisions, ability to communicate effectively with an appreciation of cross-cultural issues.
  3. Ability to provide a high standard of client service and to exercise a high degree of integrity.
  4. Ability to quickly learn about and use computers, departmental computer systems and other technology.
  5. Initiative, judgment, flexibility and the ability to prioritise responsibilities and work independently in a high-pressure, unpredictable environment
  6. Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a small team, to respond effectively to challenges and to work as a member of a multicultural work team.

A security clearance, commensurate with the position, may be required prior to confirmation of appointment. At times, travel outside Dhaka may be required.
