Car Rental Software

Problem:

You just got off your flight in some foreign country and you realize that you did not rent a car before booking the flight. You’re alone, scared, barely speak the language, and don’t have a means of transportation to get you anywhere. What do you do?

Find a local car rental place, and rent a car! Certainly not everyone remembers to make a reservation for a car rental before booking that three thousand mile flight, but that is not necessary with so many car rental companies available. They practically surround the airports nowadays, so you’ll never be left without a vehicle. Due to the overwhelmingly popular demand for car rental companies, our software engineering group has been given the task to implement the software required to run such a company. The name of the software: 3GVC Rentals.

Tasks:

As a car rental company, our software should be able to be used to complete several different tasks.

-Renting vehicles: The heart of the software, it will allow customers (both new and previous) to rent any available vehicle for any amount of time they need it.

-Adding customers: New customers will be added into the system so that the company can keep track of who is renting what at any given time.

-Adding cars: The company will every once in a while want to purchase new cars to keep a good variety available for the customers. This system will allow for the addition of new cars into the system.

-Discharging old cars: Whenever a car’s time has gone out, the company needs to retires these vehicles in order to make room for newer ones. The system will allow you to remove cars from the records.

-Offering memberships: Whenever a customer has rented twice with our company, he/she will be offered the opportunity to purchase a membership and get 10% off of future car rentals.

-Offering insurance: We can’t always trust drivers, so for that reason and by state law, we offer a temporary insurance policy while the car is being rented. For a nominal fee, should anything happen, the insurance company will be held responsible.

Users:

The software will be designed to be used by an employee of the car rental company, and will have exclusive access to all of its functionality. He/she will be able to perform all necessary duties of the car rental company, making rentals, adding customers, adding cars, etc.
