1.10COORDINATION

  1. Coordinate sizes and locations of roof curbs, equipment supports, and roof penetrations with actual equipment provided.
  2. Coordinate metal panel installation with rain drainage work, flashing, trim, construction of soffits, and other adjoining work to provide a weathertight, secure, and noncorrosive installation.

1.11WARRANTY

When warranties are required, verify with Owner's counsel that special warranties stated in this article are not less than remedies available to Owner under prevailing local laws.

  1. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of metal panel systems that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.
  2. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:
  3. Structural failures including rupturing, cracking, or puncturing.
  4. Deterioration of metals and other materials beyond normal weathering.

Verify available warranties and warranty periods for metal panels.

  1. Warranty Period: Two years from date of Substantial Completion.
  1. Special Warranty on Panel Finishes: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair finish or replace metal panels that show evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within specified warranty period.

Usually retain "Exposed Panel Finish" Subparagraph below for fluoropolymer.

  1. Exposed Panel Finish: Deterioration includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  2. Color fading more than 5Hunter units when tested according to ASTMD2244.
  3. Chalking in excess of a No.8 rating when tested according to ASTMD4214.
  4. Cracking, checking, peeling, or failure of paint to adhere to bare metal.

Verify available warranties for metal panel finishes and insert number in "Finish Warranty Period" Subparagraph below. A 20-year period is available for fluoropolymer finish and is the maximum included with manufacturers' published data. Longer periods for premium finishes may be available.

  1. Finish Warranty Period: 35 years from date of Substantial Completion.

Verify availability of warranty in "Special Weathertightness Warranty" Paragraph below; only a few manufacturers, for a limited number of products, offer a weathertightness warranty.

  1. Special Weathertightness Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace standing-seam metal roof panel assemblies that fail to remain weathertight, including leaks, within specified warranty period.

Verify available warranties and warranty periods for units and components made by manufacturers listed in Part2 articles.

  1. Warranty Period: [20] <Insert number> years from date of Substantial Completion.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

See Editing Instruction No.1 in the Evaluations for cautions about named manufacturers and products. For an explanation of options and Contractor's product selection procedures, see Section016000 "Product Requirements."

2.1PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Retain "Recycled Content" Paragraph below to specify recycled content if required. An alternative method of requiring recycled content is to retain requirement in Project's Division01 sustainable design requirements Section that gives Contractor the option and responsibility to determine how recycled content requirements will be met.

  1. Recycled Content: Average Recycled Content, Postconsumer recycled content plus one-half of preconsumer recycled content not less than 72 percent.

"Solar Reflectance Index" Paragraph below applies to LEED 2009. First option is minimum for roofs with slopes of 2:12 or less; second option is for roofs with slopes steeper than 2:12.

  1. Solar Reflectance Index: Not less than [78] [29] when calculated according to ASTME1980, based on testing identical products by a qualified testing agency.
  2. Structural Performance: Provide metal panel systems capable of withstanding the effects of the following loads, based on testing according to ASTME1592:
  3. Deflection Limits: For wind loads, no greater than 1/180 for uplift loading and 1/240 for positive loading of the span.

Retain "Air Infiltration" and "Water Penetration under Static Pressure" paragraphs below for single-skin metal panels that span openings between supports; usually delete for panels mounted on solid substrates.

ASTME1680 in "Air Filtration" Paragraph below has replaced ASTME283 for testing metal roof panels.

  1. Air Infiltration: Air leakage of not more than 0.06 cfm/sq. ft. (0.3L/s per sq.m) when tested according to ASTME1680.

Value in first option in "Test-Pressure Difference" Subparagraph below is equivalent to a 25-mph (40-km/h) wind and is ASTME1680 default. Products tested to value in second option below, equivalent to a 50-mph (80-km/h) wind, are widely available. Revise to suit Project.

  1. Test-Pressure Difference: [1.57 lbf/sq. ft.(75 Pa)] [6.24 lbf/sq. ft. (300 Pa)].

ASTME1646 in "Water Penetration under Static Pressure" Paragraph below has replaced ASTME331 for testing metal roof panels.

  1. Water Penetration under Static Pressure: No water penetration when tested according to ASTME1646.

Test in "Hydrostatic-Head Resistance" Paragraph below is for resistance to hydrostatic pressure from standing water. Retain only for panels capable of watertight (hydrostatic) installation, not for panels used in water-shedding (hydrokinetic) installations that rely on underlayment for watertightness.

  1. Hydrostatic-Head Resistance: No water penetration when tested according to ASTME2140.

Retain "Wind-Uplift Resistance" Paragraph below if UL-class roof is required. Verify that product is listed in UL's "Roofing Materials & Systems Directory." UL listings include requirements for the entire assembly and not solely the metal roof panels.

  1. Wind-Uplift Resistance: Provide metal roof panel assemblies that comply with UL580 for wind-uplift-resistance class indicated.

The higher the value in the options in "Uplift Rating" Subparagraph below, the greater the uplift resistance.

  1. Uplift Rating: UL90.

Retain one option in "Fire/Windstorm Classification" Subparagraph below based on windstorm classification of Project; the higher the value in the option, the greater the uplift resistance. FMGlobal Loss Prevention Data Sheet1-28 multiplies the actual field-of-roof uplift pressure by a factor of 2 to obtain the factored pressure, the number that establishes the minimum FMGlobal approval rating. Verify availability of roofing systems that meet these classifications. Other options for classifications increase in increments of 15 (e.g., Class1A-135, Class1A-150, Class1A-165, and higher). "Class1A" signifies complying with ASTME108, ClassA fire performance for FMGlobal-approved, Class1 panel roofs.

  1. Fire Classification: ClassA-90.

Retain one option in "Hail Resistance" Subparagraph below. For areas that experience three or more hailstorms annually, FMGlobal recommends roofing systems rated SH (severe hail) instead of MH (moderate hail).

  1. Hail Resistance: MH, UL Class 4 Impact Resistant.
  1. Thermal Movements: Allow for thermal movements from ambient and surface temperature changes by preventing buckling, opening of joints, overstressing of components, failure of joint sealants, failure of connections, and other detrimental effects. Base calculations on surface temperatures of materials due to both solar heat gain and nighttime-sky heat loss.

2.2STANDING-SEAM METAL ROOF PANELS

  1. General: Provide pre-formed metal roof panels designed to be installed in continuous lengths and interconnecting raised side edges of adjacent panels with joint type indicated and mechanically attaching panels to supports using concealed clips in side laps. Include clips, cleats, pressure plates, and accessories required for weathertight installation.

Copy paragraphs below and re-edit for each product.

Insert drawing designation for each product required. Use these designations on Drawings to identify each product. Retain “Metal Roof Panel” Subparagraphs below for those panel types included in the Project.
