Job Title:Grounds MaintenanceSupervisor

Job Purpose: The role holder will be responsible for the maintenance and landscaping of outdoor areas and facilities at both City and Coach Lane Campus. Co-ordinate and oversee a team of in-house gardeners, litter pickers and 3rd party contractors.

Responsible to:Facilities Co-ordinator.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

In line with the University’s Mission, Corporate Strategy and Leadership Attributes, you will:

  • Supervise and coordinate internal resources to deliver a safe, customer focused grounds maintenance service including winter maintenance
  • Create seasonal grounds maintenance programmes with designs and cost proposals for both City and Coach Lane campus.
  • Manage a rota to provide grounds staff and grounds supervision cover as required to deliver a 5 over 7 working pattern as part of a flexible working arrangement, including a call out rota for winter maintenance
  • Deliver grounds maintenance services within agreed budgets and timescales
  • Support the University’s Open Days, Summer and Winter Congregation and any other external events out of normal working hours.
  • Ensure appropriate arrangements exist to maintain training and competency of the grounds maintenance team
  • Motivate and instil customer focus culture within grounds maintenanceteam to drive improved customer satisfaction outcomes.
  • Highlight risks to service delivery to the Facilities Co-ordinator and promote continuous improvement
  • To ensure safe systems of working are maintained across grounds maintenance team activity
  • Regularly review and update activity Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Maintain asset register of tools, machinery, equipment and PPE utilised by the Grounds Maintenance team
  • Maintain adequate pesticide and diesel registers
  • Identify resource risks and additional staffing requirements to ensure adequate cover is maintained
  • Induct and supervise temporary resources in accordance with the University procedure
  • To provide periodic Tool Box and H&S talks to the team
  • Respond positively to feedback by proactively reviewing processes, procedures and practices to ensure that the needs and expectations of relevant stakeholders are met.
  • Contribute to the development of a collaborative, collegiate and inclusive culture, by sharing information and good practice with others.
