Media Center @ 5:00 PM

  1. Welcome

The SAC meeting was called to order at 5:11 PM on November 29, 2016.

  1. Approval of November’s SAC minutes

The October 2016 SAC minutes were reviewed for correction and grammatical errors. Ms. Campo made the motion to approve the minutes reflecting no errors. Ms. Diaz seconded the approval of the meeting minutes. All SAC members were in favor to approve the October 2016 minutes at 5:20 PM.

  1. Updates/SIP

Ms. Diaz announced that Mr. Laplante is no longer with WHE and Mr. Myers will be taking on the position as SAC Co-Chairperson. Ms. Diaz, Ms. Palacios, and Mr. Myer will be attending a meeting next week to finalize the SIP.

  1. Bid for Afterschool Care

Ms. Palacios will be meeting with several after school care programs (Hispanic Unity, ASP, and YMCA). She will be shopping through each After School Program and make comparison to see what would best benefit WHE. This will all take place Monday, Nov. 28th

Ms. Palacios was most excited to share updates about the Smart Bond Money. She stated the gap money was $110K for technology. We will be able to have a full Digital 3, 4, and 5 program by mid-January. Teachers are getting new laptops (non-touch screen). Mr. Lafrance (WHE Technology Specialist) placed the orders for the student and teacher laptops. The teacher laptops will be supplied with a dongle.

Given the access to new laptops, we plan to use the existing laptops in the computer labs for 2nd grade for Digital 2 or have teachers share carts in the lower grade levels. Mr. Lafrance went ahead and ordered reserve laptops for teachers and students in the event computers are down for repairs.

Ms. Palacios is awaiting the release of the Extended Learning Opportunities. The funds will be used towards Saturday Camp and after school tutoring.

The Benchmark Assessment is between January and February. Ms. Palacios informed her concerns with Ms .Quintana from iReady about being able to administer the Diagnostic Assessment prior to the Winter Break. We don’t want to overwhelm the students with too many assessments. As an incentive, Ms. Palacios proposed holding a monthly iReady Dance for student who access iReady on a regular basis and successfully pass their lessons. We are looking at minutes of use and proficiency in the Diagnostic. Ms. Khadaran suggest giving a range to show improvement. This would probably alleviate some of the behavior concerns. Teachers can perform a monthly behavior check list that says “Monthly Dance. Ms. Palacios would like for teachers to conduct iReadyData Chat with students. This will be discussed after winter break.

  1. New Business

No other new business.

  1. Adjournment

Ms. Khadaran made the motion to adjourn the SAC meeting at 5:35 PM. Ms. Campo seconded the motion. The next meeting is scheduled for December 14, 2016 at 5:00 PM in the Media Center.
