American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program / See Mrs. Lehew by December 1 / The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students.Speaking subjects must be on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. Speeches are eight to 10 minutes long; three- to five-minute speeches on an assigned topic also are part of the contest.

American Red Cross “Leaders Save Lives” Scholarship Challenge / January 15 / To be eligible, a student blood drive coordinator must: - be 16 to 24 years old – coordinate a blood drive between Dec. 16 and January 15 – collect at least 25 pints of blood and achieve 100% of the blood drive goal.

Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha XI Chapter Scholarship / March 13 / The Delta Kappa Gamma Alpha Xi Chapter Scholarship is intended for seniors interested in the field of teaching/education. Applicants must submit a completed application, two letters of recommendation, and a high school transcript.
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship (NCAE/NCFPSC) / January 30 / Application package must include: a completed application form, resume (of accomplishments, extra- curricular activities, scholarships, affiliations, and organizations), philosophies of Dr. King, a one page essay “Why do you think you deserve this scholarship?”, an official transcript indicating a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, two letters of recommendation (one from school personnel and one from a community member)

Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship / February 5 / Applicants must: complete an application, submit a separate list of extracurricular activities, honors, community or church work, and work experience, submit a photograph, an official transcript, a letter of recommendation from the student’s minister, employer, or adult friend, a letter of recommendation from the student’s guidance counselor or teacher, and three copies of an original essay of 500- 700 words on the following topic:
Our country’s founders created three separate branches of government and constitutional checks and balances in order to distribute power and prevent its accumulation. Are these separations of power within the federal government more difficult to maintain today than in the past? Please cite three outside courses to support your view. (Suggested sources might include the internet, historic documents, personal interviews as well as traditional research materials.)
NC Division of Veterans Affairs Scholarship / March 1 / Applicant must: be under the age of 25 at time of application, be a resident of NC, be the natural or adopted child prior to the age of 15 of a QUALIFIED VETERAN, plan to attend a 4 college/university or 2 community/technical college in NC, and maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Statesville Woman’s Club Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship / January 8 / This scholarship is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition, leadership ability, and need for financial assistance. Applicant must be a resident of NC and a senior at an accredited NC high school. Applicant must be in the top 25% of the senior class. Applicant must complete the official application form. The scholarship is to be used at a FOUR YEAR college/university in NC.
The following must be submitted: Application form; recent photograph; personal letter as to why student desires to continue their education, the student’s future plans, and why financial aid is necessary; letter of recommendation from either the school principal, guidance counselor, or teacher; letter of recommendation from someone other than school personal; letter of recommendation from the President of the sponsoring club; high school transcript; SAT and/or ACT scores; copy of the most recent Federal Tax Returns for applicant’s parent(s) and applicant – document any significant changes in family income if necessary.
West Iredell is able to nominate TWO students to be considered for this scholarship competition! SunTrust Off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes / May 15 / Thirty $500 scholarships will be awarded for education expenses at a college or university. Free to enter and eligibility not based on financial need or GPA. Enter once every two weeks, up to 15 times during the sweepstakes period. Two winner randomly chosen every two weeks from October 31, 2014 to May 15, 2015.

The Professional Construction Estimators Association Kenneth N. Houston Memorial Scholarships / April 24 / The Catawba Valley Chapter of PCEA awards scholarship money to deserving high school seniors preparing to enter construction related careers. In choosing recipients, the selection committee considers academic performance, desire to enter construction related fields, financial need, community activities, and letters of recommendation. Applicants are urged to be thorough in providing information that documents academic performance (transcript), financial need, and service to the community. Applicants should include a letter written to the selection committee that makes clear the applicant’s plans for the future, reasons for pursuing a construction related career, and that may also relate some of the applicant’s personal philosophy.
NCSHP’s 2015-2016 NC Hispanic College Fund / January 15 / The NC Society of Hispanic Professionals established the scholarship to benefit Hispanic students in NC. Selection criteria includes: high school senior or graduate, a four- year cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, 2 letters of recommendation, an official high school transcript, completed application, and a personal statement.

Triangle Pest Control Scholarship / March 2 / Triangle Pest Control has established technology as one of its primary goals. In order to fulfill this goal, Triangle Pest Control has created a merit based scholarship fund for individuals seeking education in environmental studies. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to an individual who has displayed academic excellence, in addition to a passionate pursuit of furthered environmental education at an accredited college or university in North Carolina.

(Virginia Military Institute) The Institute Scholars Program / February 1 / Full and Partial Scholarships are available for students planning to attend VMI. To be eligible, candidates must meet or exceed the following criteria: Combined SAT – 1350 or ACT – 30 and high school GPA – 3.75. To be considered for scholarship recognition, applicants must complete an application for admission to VMI, complete the scholarship application, submit a resume and two short essays.
West Iredell Ruritan Club/Dean Reep Memorial Scholarships / February 2 / Any senior may apply for the West Iredell Ruritan Club Scholarship. Applicants for the Dean Reep Memorial Scholarship must be planning to pursue a college degree in Criminal Justice, Business, or a related field. All applicants must submit a completed application and a copy of his/her most current transcript. The financial information requested in this application will be treated confidentially.
