Status: Exempt

Salary: $16.50/hour (DOE)

Overview:

This is a full-time, 40+ hours per week position with primary responsibility for administration and management of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault shelter and related programs.

Administrative:

  • Develop staff organizational structure
  • Recruit, interview, hire/terminate, supervise, and evaluate staff and operations
  • Evaluate the success of core programs and performance of responsible staff and assure all related responsibilities are being performed satisfactory
  • Maintain up to date job descriptions for all staff positions
  • Supervise all staff positions
  • Supervise operation of Suited for Success program
  • Approve staff leave and necessary overtime
  • Moderate disputes of clients, which cannot be resolved by Shelter staff
  • Plan regular staff meetings and staff development opportunities
  • Research/Supervise/Coordinate/write proposals for on-going grants and other funding sources
  • Execute all follow-up required by funding sources
  • Assure valid data collection, AVID input, and statistical reporting
  • Supervise personnel records
  • Complete all accounts payable/receivables utilizing QuickBooks
  • Complete payroll twice monthly
  • Supervise safe keeping of records for clients, grants, financial and programs
  • Work closely with Accountant to manage the fiscal operation of Safe Space. This includes adherence to budgets and monitoring expenditures
  • Assure that grant funds are used properly and within allotted categories and time frames
  • Comply with all federal, state, local, grant requirements, including site visits, audits and inspections.

Programs/Services:

  • Develop, implement and maintain shelter program policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Investigate and resolve all incident reports and grievance issues
  • Assure 24-hour / 365 days shelter and crisis line coverage
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of shelter and client services
  • Assure compliance with state required program and facility standards
  • Provide staff support and back up for crisis intervention and shelter coverage

Board:

  • Prepare monthly Board Report
  • Attend monthly Board Meetings

Fundraising:

  • Develop and oversee fundraising opportunities

Community:

  • Serve as liaison with other community service agencies
  • Work with appropriate Board committee(s) to coordinate community education and public relations programs in conjunction with existing community agencies
  • Participate in domestic violence task forces
  • Conduct training for other agencies when requested
  • Communicate Safe Space goals and services to various public entities including but not limited to: board, staff, volunteers, contributors, other non-profit agencies, relevant government agencies, and the media
  • Participate in fundraising activities and promotions with the community on behalf of Safe Space.

State:

  • Represent Safe Space with state and federal funding agencies
  • Represent Safe Space at state Coalition meetings
  • Represent Safe Space at Shelter Meetings

Provide the following client services, which are not inclusive:

  • Initial contact and stabilization of the survivor’s situation
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention via telephone and in person
  • Coordinate services for survivors and their families to cope with the trauma of victimization and assist in the recovery process
  • Respond to the immediate need for medical care, shelter, food, and clothing for survivors
  • Accompany and support survivors at hospitals, law enforcement agencies, District Attorney’s Office, court proceedings, and other agencies, assist with placement in emergency housing, advocate for access in shelter, provide technical assistance to shelter staff regarding cultural sensitivity for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors
  • Will assist volunteer coordinator to recruit and train crisis line volunteers staff to answer crisis line by the second ring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year
  • Complete all intake and case management paperwork; assist with forms and making compensation claim if available
  • Present and ensure completion of needs assessment to 100% of victims encountered
  • Provide a comprehensive safety plan to 100% of victims encountered and provide documentation of completed plan
  • Ensure all persons utilizing services are completing an evaluation of services
  • Make referrals to appropriate community agencies, get immediate appointments and coordinate transportation
  • Brief survivor on all support groups and agency services available
  • Work with staff and other agencies to provide culturally appropriate services to all resident and non-resident survivors program to ensure culturally specific services for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors
  • To provide sexual violence and domestic violence advocacy services using the survivor-centered approach
  • Review all public awareness materials and training curriculum to ensure appropriate use of language and culturally specific and appropriate information.
  • Establish discharge plans for each victim
  • Document all resident and community agency contacts in the appropriate file describing significant events of each contact
  • Make decisions as to admittance of shelter residents
  • Arrange and provide transportation for residents as needed
  • Develop, maintain and disseminate information on referral resources to program participants. Make referrals to other appropriate agencies/services and make initial personal contact with service agencies when needed
  • Coordinate with other staff for services of all survivors
  • Gather information about changes in law affecting sexual assault and domestic violence
  • Work with the staff and other agencies to provide appropriate services to all survivors with disabilities
  • Maintain confidential client files
  • Maintain and disseminate resource information on domestic violence and sexual assault issues
  • Input information into AVID database and check for accuracy
  • Perform in take and exit services as needed
  • Be available and accessible to clients for crisis intervention, and participate in meetings
  • Be a liaison between survivor and other agencies if needed
  • Inform the community about available Safe Space services
  • Serve as backup to shelter staff
  • Perform other duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • At minimum a Bachelor’s degree in human services field or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and other women’s issues
  • Previous grant writing and non-profit management experience
  • Extensive skills in public speaking, supervising, interpersonal relationships, organizational development and problem solving
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and training

Education Requirements after Employment:

  • Completion of at least 40 hours of training initially and 20 hours annually in victim oriented issues. These include: Victims of crimes, crisis intervention, domestic violence, sexual assault intervention, child abuse, crimes against children. These trainings may require an overnight stay.
