Roundtable on Partnership for Inclusive Employment [PIE]

A Roundtable on Partnership for Inclusive Employment [PIE] was held on 19 May 2014 at NITTTR, Chandigarh. Employers who recruited persons with disabilities [PWDs], representatives from CII Chandigarh, Vocational Rehabilitation Centre Ludhiana, Sarthak Educational Trust New Delhi and Tech Mahindra Foundation New Delhi participated in the Roundtable. The Roundtable resulted in generating awareness about the importance of empowering PWDs through their placements in different companies. Roundtable also helped in understanding the challenges faced by PWDs in discharging their duties as well as by potential employers in dealing with the PWD employees.

Job Fair for Qualified PWDs

A Job Fair for providing employment to persons with disabilities was held at NITTTR, Chandigarh on 20 May 2014. The job fair was jointly organised by NITTTR Chandigarh, Sarthak Educational Trust New Delhi, CII Chandigarh and Vocational Rehabilitation Centre Ludhiana. 21 companies/organisations and 250 PWDs participated in the job fair. The job fair resulted in shortlisting of 57 PWDs by 13 companies/organisations.

Prominent among those who addressed the PWDs during the inaugural ceremony included DrBD Mundhra, Chairman, Simplex Infrastructures Ltd, New Delhi (Chief Guest); Dr Manoj Arora, Director PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh; Mr Darpan Kapoor, Chairman, CII Chandigarh Council &Vice Chairman, Kapsons Group, Chandigarh; Dr MP Poonia, Director, NITTTR, Chandigarh; Mr Rajesh Kumar Singh, North Region Head, Tech Mahindra Foundation; Dr Jitender Aggarwal, CEO, Sarthak Educational Trust, New Delhi, Dr JS Saini, Dean-Extension Services and Consultancy and Mr Jai Prakash, Assistant Director, Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, Ludhiana.
