Income Generation and Investment Committee

Background

The RCN Foundation’s Board of Trustees has established a number of committees to support its work.We aim to have the best possible balance of skills, knowledge and expertise on each of our Committees to help the Foundation to achieve its strategic objectives and deliver its plans.

Expert Advisers bring their skills and knowledge to the committee on which they sit to ensure it is able to make informed decisions in line with best practice and to oversee the development and delivery of the Foundation’s strategic objectives.

Expert Advisers are appointed through an open recruitment process. Appointments are for a term of four years with individuals not normally serving more than two successive terms.

The Committee meets four times a year in central London. Additionally, Expert Advisers are invited to attend the Foundation’s annual strategic awayday and key events during the year.

Expert Advisers are expected to commit approximately six to ten days a year to the work of the Foundation, including attending meetings, reviewing papers and responding to requests from the committee Chair.

Expert Adviser position is voluntary, but expenses are paid.

The Foundation is seeking a well experienced individual to join its Income Generation and Investment (IGI) Committee as an Expert Adviser. The IGI Committee oversees all of the Foundation’s income generation activities, incorporating fundraising and investments and we are in particularseeking an Expert Adviser with experience and a track record in fundraising.

Role Description

  1. To provide independent and objective specialist advice to the RCN Foundation’s IGI Committee.
  2. To support the development and delivery of the work of the RCN Foundation through the IGICommittee.
  3. To ensure that the IGI Committee is aware of best practice in fundraising.
  4. To take full part in the work of the Committee.
  5. To provide advice and guidance to the Head of Foundation, and the Fundraising and Communications Manager.
  6. To enable the charity to achieve its strategic objectives.

Person Specification

Expert advisers should have the following knowledge, skills, experience and qualities:

  1. Knowledge of,and commitment to, the charitable objects, mission and priorities of the Foundation.
  2. An understanding of good governance in charities.
  3. Knowledge, skills and experience in current fundraising practice and the ability to guide the work of the Foundation in this area.
  4. Willingness to act in the best interests of the charity and comply with the Nolan Principles of Public Life (Selflessness, Integrity, Objectivity, Accountability, Openness, Honesty, and Leadership).
  5. The ability to work well as a member of the team.
  6. An ability to commit the necessary time to be an effective member of the committee.
  7. Sound analytical skills and good judgement.
