Role: Communications & Marketing Assistant

(6 months’ maternity cover temporary to 1st June 2018)

Reporting to: Communications Manager

Number of hours: 18 hours per week

Purpose of role:

To develop and deliver the Anaphylaxis Campaign’s communications, marketing and public relations activities in line with the organisation’s marketing and communications strategy. Messaging will be distributed through both offline and online communications channels, including our website, social media channels, e-newsletters and publications. The role also includes developing pipelines for new business marketing opportunities as well as supporting our Press Office by handling media requests and assisting in the development and distribution of media releases.

Key Responsibilities:

Communications

  • Support the development and maintenance of our main charity website the AllergyWise website monitoring content daily and making updates as appropriate. Resolve issues relating to website functionality by liaising with the designated web provider or other suppliers.
  • Monitor our social media channels daily and plan the distribution of future content using tools such as Hootsuite. Ensure that the content is relevant for each channel and audience to ensure maximum engagement and that comments are responded to in a timely manager, including the signposting of any helpline queries to the Information team. Facilitate a positive community atmosphere by developing discussions and ensuring threads are not dominated by ‘trolls’ or negative behaviour and language.
  • Support the design and distribution of our regular e-newsletters to our Individual, Corporate and Healthcare Professional members, liaising with the relevant membership manager(s) to plan content. Ensure that the design and content is compelling to maximise engagement.
  • Support with the design, print and distribution of both online and offline publications, including our Information Standard materials, and liaise with suppliers as appropriate.
  • Design and distribute regular internal staff communications to ensure that colleagues remain abreast of ongoing developments and opportunities across the organisation.
  • Collate and present regular reports on the reach and success of our communications activities, monitoring and analysing key performance indicators using tools such as Google Analytics.

Marketing

  • Research key target audiences and develop a robust pipeline of new business opportunities to enable the Communications team to meet income generation targets for sponsorship, advertising events and product sales, including our conference programme and AllergyWise online anaphylaxis training courses.

Public relations

  • Support our Press Office by answering media enquiries via telephone and email, ensuring requests are responded to by the specified deadline with the relevant information requested, including any appropriate case studies.
  • Approach our supporters for case studies and keep an accurate record of consents given on our CRM database and shared files.
  • Support our PR outreach activities, including researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media sources through the online distribution programme Ability PR.
  • Record media enquiries and collate cuttings from resulting media coverage on our CRM database and shared files.
  • Support the Communications Manager in liaising with colleagues and key spokespeople to manage our reputation in potential crisis situations.

Campaigns and project management

  • Support our wider staff team with publicity for events and support groups across the country across all key communications channels.
  • Support and manage ad hoc projects as appropriate such as film projects, PR campaigns, events or writing assignments.

  • Experience of developing and maintaining CMS websites
  • Proficient user of WordPress
  • Experience of social media monitoring, management and scheduling
  • Proficient user of the social media channels Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and scheduling platform Hootsuite
  • Experience of designing and distributing e-newsletters
  • Proficient user of Dotmailer
  • Experience of creating online content including graphics, text and video
  • Proficient user of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premier Pro or Canva
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint and Word
  • Experience in reporting and presenting key performance indicator data
  • Proficient user of Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with Google Adwords, Search Engine Optimisation, Pay Per Click and managing Google AdWords Grants
  • Experience of researching to develop sales and marketing pipelines
  • Experience of working in a press office environment including responding to media enquiries and writing press releases
  • Experience of using a CRM database
