Culture and Context Unit

A unit which works with entities and individuals at the edge or beyond the edge of Church to continue the Church’s learning about its role as host and guest in varying situations. This includes work in the area of Responsible Travel which is the area which this role will support. This area particularly supports individual of age 55+ to discover the power and potential of responsible travel both for travellers and for host communities.

Role purpose

The Responsible Travel Community Development Workerwill maintain contact with and support the existing community of Uniting Journeys Conversation Partners (CPs), encourage the growth and development of those CPs (and any new connections) to be self-sustaining advocates for Responsible Travel, be the first point of contact for email, telephone and most social media enquiries about Uniting Journeys tours and activitiesand work with the CFM Events Coordinator to ensure the liaison with the travel agency partner for Uniting Journeys is coordinated.

Essential requirements of the position

  • Employment is subject to a satisfactory National Criminal History Check
  • The Uniting Church in Australia is committed to keeping children safe
  • Employment in this role is subject to a current working with children check
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence
  • Annual leave may not be taken immediately prior to and during the Synod meeting
  • From time to time, flexibility of hours is necessary, generally between 8am and 6 pm on weekday

Qualifications and experience

  • Qualifications and/orexperience working in tourism or travel
  • 5 to 7 years proven experience in a related role
  • Significant community development experience as part of previous roles

Key responsibilities, tasks and outcomes

/ Support and develop existing conversation partners and Uniting Journeys traveller community / Convene and host social and developmental gatherings for CP group
Assist CP members to conceive of and convene tours
Share information amongst the CP community related to community events and tours and relevant external responsible travel developments / Existing Uniting Journeys networks are maintained and developed
Move CP community to self-sustaining community

/ Assist in promotingexisting Uniting Journeystours / Identify relevant promotion for tours in conversation with all project partners
Respond to information requests regarding potential or advertised journeys
Encourage and assist CPs to promote travel opportunities / Ensure maximum awareness of 55+ travel offerings by Uniting Journeys
Client requests are fulfilled in a timely way

/ Undertake social and other media support for the community / A range of stories about the CP and broader traveller community are shared to help grow the community and encourage participants to plan and execute their own travel projects / Selected general and social media platforms are actively sharing information and encouraging interaction

4.

/ Promoting future Uniting Journeys tours / Working with Conversation Partners to draft content about future journeys for use in advertising channels / Accurate and accessible information about Uniting Journeys is provided to the public

5.

/ Monitoring responsible travel programs and trends / Reviewing related responsible travel media and information / Knowledge of responsible travel information available in the community grows

6.

/ Forums and events / Work with the CFM Events Coordinator to make logistical arrangements for forums and events including liaison with event venue, correspondence with participants, preparing to facilitate the event or arranging CP or other facilitation / Events held successfully

/ Correspondence / Manage correspondence between the unit, unit partners and program participants. / Correspondence responded to in an accurate and timely manner

/ Administrative support / Undertake any miscellaneous administrative and logistical work related to the Uniting Journeys projects. / Efficient and effective completion of tasks as negotiated

/ Office presence and emergency contact / Working with the CFM Events Coordinator, deal with issues arising on current tours and maintaining contact with our travel agent, travel insurance, etc. as they arise. / Office support for existing tours
