The Energy Research Centre (ERC) at the University of Cape Town is one of South Africa’s leading institutions involved in energy research, employing about 25 people from a variety of backgrounds. The Energy Efficiency group at ERC pursues excellence in research in the field of energy efficiency and demand side management (DSM). In addition to this our group is an accredited Measurement and Verification (M&V) body for Eskom DSM projects.

We invite applications for the following 3-year contractpositions for immediate appointment. This would be an ideal opportunity for an engineer/technician with commercial or industrial experience, looking to work in the energy efficiency and M&V environment.

Applicants are to be engineering graduates, and are expected to possess analyticaland report writing skills.

Energy Efficiency Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Measurement & Verification work under supervision;
  • Carry out Energy Efficiency Auditing under supervision;
  • Report writing.

Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification: B.Sc. (Engineering) or B.Tech degree;
  • Relevant industrial or commercial experience would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and energy calculations;
  • Familiarity with basic electrical measuring instruments;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • High proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel); proficiency in a programming language would be an advantage;
  • Current, valid South African driver’s license;
  • The ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines;
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours when the need arises, as the sites are located throughout South Africa.

The annual remuneration, including benefits for this position is negotiable between R200 452 and R235 811.

Senior Energy Efficiency Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out Measurement & Verification work;
  • Carry out Energy Efficiency Auditing;
  • Report writing;
  • Assist in teaching and training activities where required.

Requirements:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification: B.Sc. (Engineering) or B.Tech. degree supported by a minimum of two years relevant industrial or commercial experience;
  • Knowledge of electrical circuits and energy calculations;
  • Familiarity with basic electrical measuring instruments; an electrical wireman’s license would be an advantage;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • High proficiency in MS Office (particularly Excel); proficiency in a programming language would be an advantage;
  • Current, valid South African driver’s license;
  • The ability to work under pressure and achieve deadlines;
  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours when the need arises, as the sites are located throughout South Africa.

The annual remuneration, including benefits for this position is negotiable between R238 359 and R280 394.
