An opportunity exists to relieve as Principal at Ajuga School from 27 January to 7 April 2017, with a possibility of extension.

Position Information

Ajuga School provides an integration program for 49 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 who have a severe emotional disturbance. Currently there are four primary and three high school classes in operation. Each class is staffed with a teacher and a School Learning Support Officer.

Students usually attend Ajuga for six school terms. During this time students continue to attend their mainstream school initially for one day a week gradually increasing to full-time over the enrolment period. The program has an emphasis on working closely with home schools to facilitate students’successful transition back into the mainstream setting.

The school community consists of parents and carers, referring home schools, Sydney Distance Education, TAFEs, local businesses, health services and neighbouring schools.

The school and its community have high expectations and value the provision of a variety of learning experiences including: Music Therapy, Counselling, Environmental Education, Sport, Ajuga Reading Challenge, Social Skills, and an inclusive curriculum in all Key Learning Areas.

Ajuga School is part of the Empowering Local Schools reform that includes the initial implementation of the Learning Management and Business Reform program.

  2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs;
  3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community;
  4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning;
  5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning;
  6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department’s Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
