Relevant Question: “How are we like our Father?”

1) In the exercise of our Faith

2) In the conduct of our Behavior

3) In the truth of our Words

1) Satan and the Devil are actually two different spiritual beings. [T] or [F]

Sermonfalse, Satan and the devil are the exactsame unclean, foul spirit. Satan is who he is, and deceiving or slandering is what he does. Satan is the master liar and his deceptive schemes are built on lies. In fact, Satan the devil is the father of all lies.

v44“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”

2) If Jesus the Son shall set you free, you are free indeed. [T] or [F]

SermonFALSE, the Son makes free, and not set free. That is, receiving the truth in Christ makes free those in slavery to sin. An individual must be made (taught) to know and think she or he is made (transformed) to be free or liberated. A true follower and an authentic learner of Christ is a disciple. A disciple is one who exercises their faith in Jesus as The Christ. Remember, the saved prove their faith by their faithfulness.

v32“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Sermon Faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God makes a person a child of God. That is, by abiding in the Word of God and by knowing the truth [and living it] makes one a true disciple of the Kingdom of God.

v31“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.”

3) A person’s behavior indicates in whom they believe and follow. [T] or [F]

SermontruE, Jesus affirms that a child will act like his or her father; like father like son, or daughter. Our spiritual paternity is quite evident that our spiritual DNA will indicate whether we are a son of Satan or a daughter of the Devil. Satan is the thief that comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy.

Sermon Who’s your daddy is asking the question “who owns you” or whose “control” are you under. Remember, salvation is a spiritual experience and rebirthwith God the Father. Human birth through Father Abraham, or whoever, is no guarantee of redemption. Salvation is only through Jesus Christ and those who are bornagain are the “sons” of God and shall abide (live) in God the Father’s house forever.

v34-35“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin. 35And the servant abideth not in the house forever: but the Son abideth ever.”

SermonIf these Jews were truly Abraham’s children – having not just his genes but also his faith – then they would have shown a lively obedience to God and to Jesus. In fact, we are most like God our Father when we embrace the truth of Jesus’ words.

v47 >“He that is of God hears God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.”

Sermon These Jews were behaving like their father the devil. Instead of having the spiritual character formed under divine influence, these Jews had a character formed under a diabolical influence. Instead of being formed in God’s likeness, or in the likeness of God’s friend Abraham, they resembled Satan, the immortal enemy of both God and Man.

4) In the Gospel of John, the Jews accused Jesus of which of the following:

[a] Jesus was a liar.

[b] Jesus was a Samaritan and a devil.

[c] Jesus was insane.

[d] Jesus was the Son of God.

[e] All of the Above.

SermonB =YES, the Jews accused Jesus of being a demon-possessed Samaritan. That is, the Jews accuse Jesus of not being an Israelite and possessed with a devil.

v48 >“Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?”

SermonA = NO, although the Jews never called Jesus an outright liar, they did not believe His claims to be equal with God as His eternal Son (Messiah).

John 5:18 >“Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the Sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.”

Sermon >C = NO, although the Jews believed Jesus to be a sinner who broke the Sabbath law, they never thought Jesus to be insane. However, they accused Jesus of being in partnership with Beelzebub.

Luke 11:15 >“But some of them said, He casts out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.”

SermonD = NO, the Jews never accused Jesus as being the Son of God. On the contrary, the Jews constantly denied that Jesus was the Christ or Messiah. In fact, it took God the Father to reveal to Simon Peter that Jesus is the Son of the Living God. The truth is that Jesus never had to testify about Himself because the works that He did, the words that He spoke and the effect of His ministry spoke for itself.

Matthew 16:16 >“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”

SermonE = NO, thus nullifying “all of the above.”

5) Indicate what happens once faith possesses a person’s soul and spirit.

[a] Join the church[c] Christian labor

[b] Give money into the offering[d] All of the above

SermonC = Christian Labor. Faith that saves will produce Christian labor fit for the Kingdom. After all, faith without works is dead. The proof of our faith is laboring with God, and fervently co-laboring with Christ. Faith will also cause a seriousstudy of the Scriptures.

James 2:18, 26“18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. 26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

1Cor 3:9 > “For we are laborers together with God…”

2Tim 2:15 >“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

SermonA = NO, joining the church does not indicate real repentance or authentic faith. B = NO, giving money does not indicate true salvation or actual redemption.

SermonJesus is constantly calling Christian workers into the vineyard of Christian service. After all, the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.

Matthew 9:37“Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.”
