Reduction and Certification of the General Fund Tax Levy for the
2010-2011 Bernards Township School Board Budget by
the Bernards Township Committee
WHEREAS, the Board of Education of Bernards Township, Somerset County, presented to the voters, at the annual school election held on April 20, 2010, a question concerning the tax levy requirements for the 2010-2011 Budget for Current Expenses and Capital outlay, designated as the General Fund, in the amount of $73,710,723; and
WHEREAS, the voters of Bernards Township rejected the General Fund question by a vote of 2949 “No Votes” to 2532 “Yes Votes”; and
WHEREAS, meetings were held between elected officials and staff of the municipality and the Board of Education on 4/23/10, 4/30/10, and 5/6/10 to discuss the General Fund Budget during which changes to the budget were reviewed and a consensus was reached regarding said changes; and
WHEREAS, careful consideration has been given to the information received from the Board of Education with a view toward providing a thorough and efficient system of education in the school system of Bernards Township; and
WHEREAS, public comment was accepted on the matter of the defeated school levy on 4/27/10 and 5/10/10.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards as follows:
- The General Fund Tax Levy is to be reduced by the total sum of $800,000 as delineated below for the reasons stated:

- The Township Committee of the Township of Bernards hereby certifies the tax levy for the General Fund of the 2010-2011 Bernards Township Board of Education Budget in the amount of $72,910,723.
- The Township Committee of the Township of Bernards hereby certifies that the revised budget is sufficient to provide a thorough and efficient education.
- The reports prepared by the Bernards Township Defeated School Budget Subcommittee report dated 5/6/10, and Township Auditor report dated 5/5/10 be appended to, and made part of this resolution.
- The Municipal Clerk of the Township of Bernards is directed to provide a certified copy of this resolution by no later than May 19, 2010, to the Somerset County Superintendent of Schools, and the Bernards Township Board of Education.
