The qualification is for learners of all ages who wish to progress in animal care. It offers an opportunity to

develop essential study skills along with vocational units to create a firm foundation for successful

progression to Level 2 qualifications

Learners may be:

• young people out of education (EAQ suggest those aged 12 and over)

• 16-19 years old in full-time study

• adults who wish to progress to higher level qualifications in animal care

• currently employed in a role related to animal care and wish to progress

• currently not in employment and looking to improve their future career prospects.

The Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Professions in Animal Care comprises both mandatory and optional units. In order to gain the qualification the learner must achieve 32 credits in total. 5 credits must be taken from the mandatory units in Group M, plus 12 credits from Group O1 and 6 credits from Group O2.

The remaining credits may be taken from Group O1 and/or O2.
