Dear Postgraduate Research Student,

I am delighted to invite you to participate in Research Day 2014 which will celebrate our research activity across campaus and provide an opportunity for the Research Community at NUI Galway to share and discuss our work with peers in a supportive and stimulating environment and to enable and facilitate cross disciplinary discussions

As part of the event we are offering postgraduate students the opportunity to present their own work to the community at large while competing for a research bursary.

Event Structure & Guidelines

Event Structure:

If you submit an abstract and are invited to present a poster, you will be required to make a 3 minute presentation to a panel of judges between 11:30 and and 1:00 pm on 3rd of July, followed by a 2 minute question and answer session. There will be an award for the best poster across two categories(Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine and Arts, Business Economics, Public Policy and Law). Winners will be announced on Research Day 2014. There will be a number of spot prizes available also.

If you would like to take part in Research Day 2014, we invite you to complete the submission form available on page 2-3 of this document and submit via email to by Friday 20th of June 2014.

Poster Presentation Guidelines

  • Abstracts must be received in the Research Office by Friday 20th of June 2014.Posters must be portrait layout and AO size.
  • Abstract submissions must adhere to the format and wordcount provided in the submission form.
  • If this is your first poster presentation, please seek the advice of your supervisor on the preparation of your poster.

Set up at the event:

  • Each student will receive a poster board number, your poster should be displayed on the allocated poster board.
  • Felt Boards and Materials for mounting posters will be available at the event
  • All posters must be on display in advance of Research Day and can be set up between 9-10 am.

Event Judging:

  • Posters will be judged by a expert panel based on the following criteria, Research Content and Research Communication of Key Research Ideas.
  • Judging will take place on 3rd of July between 11:30 and 1:00 pm
  • Students will be required to make a 3 minute presentation on their research and participate in a 2 minute q & a session.

Awards:

2 X €250 research bursaries will be awarded. One bursary for Science, Technology, Engineering and Medicine and one bursary for Arts, Business Economics, Public Policy and Law. There will be a number of spot prizes awarded at the event.
